3 Will he multiply supplications to thee? will he speak soft things to thee?
3 “Will he make many supplications to you,Or will he speak to you soft words?
3 Will he make many supplications unto thee? will he speak soft words unto thee?
3 Will he beg you for mercyor speak softly to you?
3 Will he make many supplications to you, or will he beg you for mercy?
4 Will he cut out a covenant with thee? wilt thou take him for a servant forever?
4 “Will he make a covenant with you? Will you take him for a servant forever?
4 Will he make a covenant with thee? wilt thou take him for a servant for ever?
4 Will he try to make a deal with you, so that you may take him in servitude forever?
5 Wilt thou play with him as a bird? and wilt thou bind him for thy maidens?
5 “Will you play with him as with a bird,Or will you bind him for your maidens?
5 Wilt thou play with him as with a bird? or wilt thou bind him for thy maidens?
5 "Will you play with him like a pet bird? Will you put a leash on him for your little girls?
6 Shall companions give a feast upon him? shall they divide him between the Canaanites?
6 Shall the companions make a banquet of him? shall they part him among the merchants?
6 Will traders bargain for himor divide him among the merchants?
6 Will your business be able to buy him, Will you divide him among your merchant friends?
7 Wilt thou fill his skin with pointed weapons? and his head with fish spears?
7 “Can you fill his skin with harpoons,Or his head with fishing spears?
7 Canst thou fill his skin with barbed irons? or his head with fish spears?
7 Can you fill his hide with harpoonsor his head with fishing spears?
7 Will you fill his flesh with harpoons, or his head with lances?
11 Who anticipated me, and I will recompense? under all the heavens it is to me.
11 “Who has (j)(D)given to Me that I should repay him?Whatever is (E)under the whole heaven is Mine.
11 Who hath prevented me, that I should repay him? whatsoever is under the whole heaven is mine.
11 Who can take me to court and be reconciled to me? All of heaven is mine.
12 I will not be silent for him, and the word of powers and the beauty of his preparation.
12 I will not conceal his parts, nor his power, nor his comely proportion.
12 I cannot be silent about his limbs, his power, and his graceful proportions.
12 "I won't be silent concerning his limbs, his mighty strength, and orderly frame.
17 They will adhere each in his brotherhood, they will hold together, and they will not be separated.
17 “They are joined one to another; They clasp each other and cannot be separated.
17 They are joined one to another, they stick together, that they cannot be sundered.
17 Each is attached to the other, grasping each other so they cannot be separated.
19 From his mouth flaming torches shall go forth; sparks of fire will escape.
19 “Out of his mouth go burning torches;Sparks of fire leap forth.
19 Out of his mouth go burning lamps, and sparks of fire leap out.
19 Flaming torches shoot from his mouth;fiery sparks fly out!
19 Flames blaze from his mouth; streams of sparking fire fly out.
20 From his nostrils srnoke will come forth as a blown pot, and a caldron.
20 “Out of his nostrils smoke goes forthAs from a boiling pot and burning rushes.
20 Out of his nostrils goeth smoke, as out of a seething pot or caldron.
20 Smoke billows from his nostrils; like a boiling pot or burning reeds.
21 His soul will kindle coals, and a flame will go forth from his mouth.
21 “His breath kindles coals,And a flame goes forth from his mouth.
21 His breath kindleth coals, and a flame goeth out of his mouth.
21 His breath sets coals ablaze, and flames pour out of his mouth.
21 His breath can ignite coal; and flames proceed from his mouth.
22 In his neck will lodge strength, and terror will leap before him.
22 “In his neck lodges strength,And dismay leaps before him.
22 In his neck remaineth strength, and sorrow is turned into joy before him.
22 Strength resides in his neck, and dismay dances before him.
22 "His neck is so powerful that all who meet him are terrified.
23 The flaps of his flesh adhered: it will press upon him; it will not be moved.
23 “The folds of his flesh are joined together,Firm on him and immovable.
23 The flakes of his flesh are joined together: they are firm in themselves; they cannot be moved.
23 There is no flaw in his body's armor; it is firmly fixed on him and unbreachable.
24 His heart will press as a stone; and it will press as the under millstone.
24 “His heart is as hard as a stone,Even as hard as a lower millstone.
24 His heart is as firm as a stone; yea, as hard as a piece of the nether millstone.
24 His heart is as hard as a rock,as hard as a lower millstone!
24 His heart is as strong as stone, it is as hard as a lower millstone.
26 The sword reaching him, shall not be raised up: the spear, the dart, and the coat of mail.
26 “The sword that reaches him cannot avail,Nor the spear, the dart or the javelin.
26 The sword of him that layeth at him cannot hold: the spear, the dart, nor the habergeon.
26 The sword that reaches him will have no effect, nor will a spear, dart, or arrow.
26 "Thrusting at him with a sword won't be effective, nor will spears, darts, or javelins.
28 The son of the bow shall not cause him to flee: sling-stones were turned to him for stubble.
28 The arrow cannot make him flee: slingstones are turned with him into stubble.
28 No arrow can make him flee;slingstones become like stubble to him.
28 Arrows won't make him flee; stones from a sling are only pebbles to him.
29 The bludgeon was reckoned to him for stubble: and he will laugh at the shaking of the javelin.
29 “Clubs are regarded as stubble; He laughs at the rattling of the javelin.
29 Darts are counted as stubble: he laugheth at the shaking of a spear.
29 Clubs are like twigs; he laughs at the whoosh of the javelin.
31 He will cause the deep to boil as a pot: he will set the sea as ointment
31 “He makes the depths boil like a pot;He makes the sea like a jar of ointment.
31 He maketh the deep to boil like a pot: he maketh the sea like a pot of ointment.
31 He makes the depths seethe like a cauldron;he makes the sea like an ointment jar.
31 He causes the deep to boil like water in a pot, and churns the sea like one stirs ointment.
32 He will cause a beaten path to shine after him: the deep will be reckoned to be hoary.
32 “Behind him he makes a wake to shine; One would think the deep to be gray-haired.
32 He maketh a path to shine after him; one would think the deep to be hoary.
32 The sea is luminescent behind him; his wake turns the sea white, like those with gray hair.
