1 After this Jesus moved about in Galilee; he would not move in Judaea, because the Jews were trying to kill him.
1 After these things Jesus (A)was walking in Galilee, for He was unwilling to walk in Judea because (B)the Jews (C)were seeking to kill Him.
1 After these things Jesus walked in Galilee: for he would not walk in Jewry, because the Jews sought to kill him.
1 After this, Jesus traveled in Galilee,(A) since He did not want to travel in Judea(B) because the Jews(C) were trying to kill Him.(D)
1 After this, Jesus traveled throughout Galilee, because he didn't want to travel in Judea, since the Jewish leaders there were trying to kill him.
3 so his brothers said to him, "Leave this and go across into Judaea, to let your disciples witness what you can do;
3 Therefore His (E)brothers said to Him, “Leave here and go into Judea, so that Your (F)disciples also may see Your works which You are doing.
3 His brethren therefore said unto him, Depart hence, and go into Judaea, that thy disciples also may see the works that thou doest.
3 so His brothers(F) said to Him, “Leave here and go to Judea so Your disciples can see Your works(G) that You are doing.
3 So his brothers told him, "You should leave this place and go to Judea, so that your disciples can see the actions that you're doing,
4 for nobody who aims at public recognition ever keeps his actions secret. Since you can do these deeds, display yourself to the world"
4 For no one does anything in secret (a)when he himself seeks to be known publicly. If You do these things, show Yourself to the world.”
4 For there is no man that doeth any thing in secret, and he himself seeketh to be known openly. If thou do these things, shew thyself to the world.

4 since no one acts in secret if he wants to be known publicly. If you're going to do these things, you should reveal yourself to the world!"
7 the world cannot hate you, but it hates me because I testify that its deeds are evil.

10 But after his brothers had gone up to the festival, he went up too, not publicly but as it were privately.

12 There was much grumbling among the crowds concerning Him; (O)some were saying, “He is a good man”; others were saying, “No, on the contrary, He leads the people astray.”
12 And there was much murmuring among the people concerning him: for some said, He is a good man: others said, Nay; but he deceiveth the people.
12 And there was a lot of discussion about Him among the crowds. Some were saying, “He’s a good(J) man.” Others were saying, “No, on the contrary, He’s deceiving(K) the people.”
12 And there was a great deal of discussion about him among the crowds. Some were saying, "He is a good man," while others were saying, "No, he is deceiving the crowds!"
13 For fear of the Jews, however, nobody spoke of him in public.
13 Howbeit no man spake openly of him for fear of the Jews.

14 When the festival was half over, Jesus went up to the temple and began to teach.

15 Then the Jews were amazed and said, “How does He know the Scriptures,(M) since He hasn’t been trained?”
15 The Jewish leaders were astonished and remarked, "How can this man be so educated when he has never gone to school?"
17 Jesus told them in reply, "My teaching is not my own but his who sent me;
17 (U)If anyone is willing to do His will, he will know of the teaching, whether it is of God or whether I speak from Myself.
17 If any man will do his will, he shall know of the doctrine, whether it be of God, or whether I speak of myself.
17 If anyone wants to do His will,(O) he will understand whether the teaching is from God or if I am speaking on My own.
17 If anyone wants to do his will, he'll know whether this teaching is from God or whether I'm speaking on my own.
18 anyone who chooses to do his will, shall understand whether my teaching comes from God or whether I am talking on my own authority.
18 He who speaks from himself (V)seeks his own glory; but He who is seeking the glory of the One who sent Him, He is true, and there is no unrighteousness in Him.
18 He that speaketh of himself seeketh his own glory: but he that seeketh his glory that sent him, the same is true, and no unrighteousness is in him.
18 The one who speaks for himself seeks his own glory.(P) But He who seeks the glory(Q) of the One who sent Him is true,(R) and there is no unrighteousness in Him.(S)
18 The one who speaks on his own seeks his own praise. But the one who seeks the praise of him who sent him is genuine, and there's nothing false in him.
19 He who talks on his own authority aims at his own credit, but he who aims at the credit of the person who sent him, he is sincere, and there is no dishonesty in him.
19 “(W)Did not Moses give you the Law, and yet none of you carries out the Law? Why do you (X)seek to kill Me?”
19 Did not Moses give you the law, and yet none of you keepeth the law? Why go ye about to kill me?
19 Moses gave you the Law, didn't he? Yet none of you is keeping the Law. Why are you trying to kill me?"
20 Did not Moses give you the Law? ??and yet none of you honestly obeys the Law. Else, why do you want to kill me?"
20 The people answered and said, Thou hast a devil: who goeth about to kill thee?
20 “You have a demon!” the crowd responded. “Who wants to kill You?”
20 The crowd answered, "You have a demon! Who is trying to kill you?"
22 Jesus answered them, "I have only performed one deed, and yet you are all amazed at it.
22 For this reason (AA)Moses has given you circumcision (not because it is from Moses, but from (AB)the fathers), and on the Sabbath you circumcise a man.
22 Moses therefore gave unto you circumcision; (not because it is of Moses, but of the fathers;) and ye on the sabbath day circumcise a man.
22 “Consider this: Moses has given you circumcision(W)—not that it comes from Moses but from the fathers(X)—and you circumcise a man on the Sabbath.(Y)
22 Moses gave you circumcision not that it is from Moses, but from the Patriarchs and so you circumcise a man on the Sabbath.
23 Moses gave you the rite of circumcision (not that it came from Moses, it came from your ancestors), and you will circumcise a man upon the sabbath.
23 (AC)If a man receives circumcision on the Sabbath so that the Law of Moses will not be broken, are you angry with Me because I made an entire man well on the Sabbath?
23 If a man on the sabbath day receive circumcision, that the law of Moses should not be broken; are ye angry at me, because I have made a man every whit whole on the sabbath day?
23 If a man receives circumcision on the Sabbath(Z) so that the law of Moses(AA) won’t be broken, are you angry at Me because I made a man entirely well on the Sabbath?
23 If a man receives circumcision on the Sabbath so that the Law of Moses may not be broken, are you angry with me because I made a man perfectly well on the Sabbath?
24 Well, if a man gets circumcised upon the sabbath, to avoid breaking the Law of Moses, are you enraged at me for curing, not cutting, the entire body of a man upon the sabbath?
24 Judge not according to the appearance, but judge righteous judgment.
24 Stop judging(AB) according to outward appearances; rather judge according to righteous judgment.”
24 Stop judging by appearances, but judge with righteous judgment!"
25 placed after 5:47] The Jews were amazed, saying, "How can this uneducated fellow manage to read?"
25 So some of the people of Jerusalem were saying, “Is this not the man whom they are seeking to kill?
25 Then said some of them of Jerusalem, Is not this he, whom they seek to kill?
25 Then some of the people of Jerusalem began saying, "This is the man they are trying to kill, isn't it?
26 Give over judging by appearances; be just."
26 Look, He is speaking publicly, and they are saying nothing to Him. (AE)The rulers do not really know that this is (d)the Christ, do they?
26 But, lo, he speaketh boldly, and they say nothing unto him. Do the rulers know indeed that this is the very Christ?
26 Yet, look! He’s speaking publicly and they’re saying nothing to Him. Can it be true that the authorities(AD) know He is the Messiah?(AE)
26 And look, he is speaking in public, and they are not saying anything to him! Can it be that the authorities really know that this is the Messiah?
27 Then said some of the Jerusalemites, "Is this not the man they want to kill?
27 However, (AF)we know where this man is from; but whenever the Christ may come, no one knows where He is from.”
27 Howbeit we know this man whence he is: but when Christ cometh, no man knoweth whence he is.
27 But we know where this man is from.(AF) When the Messiah comes, nobody will know where He is from.”
27 We know where this man comes from. But when the Messiah comes, no one will know where he comes from."
28 Yet here he is, opening his lips in public, and they say nothing to him! Can the authorities have really discovered that he is the Christ?
28 Then Jesus cried out in the temple, (AG)teaching and saying, “(AH)You both know Me and know where I am from; and (AI)I have not come of Myself, but He who sent Me is true, whom you do not know.
28 Then cried Jesus in the temple as he taught, saying, Ye both know me, and ye know whence I am: and I am not come of myself, but he that sent me is true, whom ye know not.
28 As He was teaching in the temple complex,(AG) Jesus cried out, “You know Me and you know where I am from. Yet I have not come on My own, but the One who sent Me(AH) is true. You don’t know Him;(AI)
28 At this point Jesus, still teaching in the Temple, shouted, "So you know me and know where I've come from? I haven't come on my own accord. But the one who sent me is true, and he's the one you don't know.
30 So Jesus cried aloud, as he was teaching in the temple, "You know me? you know where I come from? But I have not come on my own initiative; I am sent, and sent by Him who is real. You do not know Him,
30 So they (AM)were seeking to seize Him; and no man laid his hand on Him, because His (AN)hour had not yet come.
30 Then they sought to take him: but no man laid hands on him, because his hour was not yet come.
30 Then they tried to seize Him. Yet no one laid a hand on Him because His hour(d) had not yet come.

31 but I know Him, because I have come from Him and He sent me."
31 But (AO)many of the crowd believed in Him; and they were saying, “(AP)When (e)the Christ comes, He will not perform more (f)(AQ)signs than those which this man has, will He?”
31 And many of the people believed on him, and said, When Christ cometh, will he do more miracles than these which this man hath done?
31 However, many from the crowd believed in Him and said, “When the Messiah comes, He won’t perform more signs than this man has done,(AK) will He?”
31 However, many in the crowd believed in him. They kept saying, "When the Messiah comes, he won't do more signs than this man has done, will he?"
32 So they tried to arrest him; but no one laid hands on him, because his time had not come yet.
32 The Pharisees heard the crowd muttering these things about Him, and the chief priests and the Pharisees sent (AR)officers to (AS)seize Him.
32 The Pharisees heard that the people murmured such things concerning him; and the Pharisees and the chief priests sent officers to take him.

33 Indeed many of the people believed in him, saying, "When the Christ does come, will he perform more Signs than this man?"
33 Therefore Jesus said, “(AT)For a little while longer I am with you, then (AU)I go to Him who sent Me.
33 Then said Jesus unto them, Yet a little while am I with you, and then I go unto him that sent me.
33 Then Jesus said, “I am only with you for a short time.(AN) Then I’m going to the One who sent Me.(AO)
33 Then Jesus said, "I'll be with you only a little while longer, and then I'm going back to the one who sent me.
35 Then said Jesus, "I will be with you a little longer, then I go to Him who sent me;
35 (AW)The Jews then said to one another, “(AX)Where does this man intend to go that we will not find Him? He is not intending to go to (AY)the Dispersion among (AZ)the Greeks, and teach the Greeks, is He?
35 Then said the Jews among themselves, Whither will he go, that we shall not find him? will he go unto the dispersed among the Gentiles, and teach the Gentiles?
35 Then the Jews(AQ) said to one another, “Where does He intend to go so we won’t find Him? He doesn’t intend to go to the Dispersion(e)(AR) among the Greeks(AS) and teach the Greeks, does He?
35 Then the Jewish leaders asked one another, "Where does this man intend to go that we won't be able to find him? Surely he's not going to the Dispersion among the Greeks and teach the Greeks, is he?
36 you will search for me but you will not find me, and where I go, you cannot come."
36 What is this statement that He said, ‘(BA)You will seek Me, and will not find Me; and where I am, you cannot come’?”
36 What manner of saying is this that he said, Ye shall seek me, and shall not find me: and where I am, thither ye cannot come?
36 What is this remark He made: ‘You will look for Me, and you will not find Me; and where I am, you cannot come’(AT)?”
36 What does this statement mean that he said, "You'll look for me but won't find me,' and, "Where I am, you cannot come'?"
37 The Jews said to themselves, "Where is he going, that we will not find him? Is he off to the Dispersion among the Greeks, to teach the Greeks?
37 Now on (BB)the last day, the great day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried out, saying, “(g)(BC)If anyone is thirsty, (h)let him come to Me and drink.
37 In the last day, that great day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried, saying, If any man thirst, let him come unto me, and drink.
37 On the last and most important day of the festival,(AU) Jesus stood up and cried out, “If anyone is thirsty, he should come to Me(f)(AV) and drink!(AW)

38 What does he mean by saying, 'You will search for me but you will not find me, and where I go, you cannot come'?"
38 He who believes in Me, (BD)as the Scripture said, ‘From (i)his innermost being will flow rivers of (BE)living water.’”
38 He that believeth on me, as the scripture hath said, out of his belly shall flow rivers of living water.
38 The one who believes in Me,(AX) as the Scripture(AY) has said,(g) will have streams of living water(AZ) flow(BA) from deep within him.”
38 The one who believes in me, as the Scripture has said, will have rivers of living water flowing from his heart."
39 Now on the last day, the great day, of the festival, Jesus stood and cried aloud, "If anyone is athirst, let him come to me and drink;
39 But this He spoke (BF)of the Spirit, whom those who believed in Him were to receive; for (BG)the Spirit was not yet given, because Jesus was not yet (BH)glorified.
39 (But this spake he of the Spirit, which they that believe on him should receive: for the Holy Ghost was not yet given; because that Jesus was not yet glorified.)
39 He said this about the Spirit.(BB) Those who believed in Jesus were going to receive the Spirit,(BC) for the Spirit(h) had not yet been received(i)(j) because Jesus had not yet been glorified.
39 Now he said this about the Spirit, whom those who were believing in him were to receive, because the Spirit was not yet present and Jesus had not yet been glorified.
40 he who believes in me ??out of his body, as scripture says, streams of living water will flow"
40 Some of the people therefore, when they heard these words, were saying, “This certainly is (BI)the Prophet.”
40 Many of the people therefore, when they heard this saying, said, Of a truth this is the Prophet.
40 When they heard these words, some in the crowd were saying, "This really is the Prophet,"
41 (he meant by this the Spirit which those who believed in him were to receive: ??as yet there was no Spirit, because Jesus had not been glorified yet).
41 Others were saying, “This is (j)the Christ.” Still others were saying, “(BJ)Surely (k)the Christ is not going to come from Galilee, is He?
41 Others said, This is the Christ. But some said, Shall Christ come out of Galilee?
41 Others said, “This is the Messiah!” But some said, “Surely the Messiah doesn’t come from Galilee, does He?
41 while others were saying, "This is the Messiah!"
42 On hearing this some of the people said, "This really is the Prophet";
42 Has not the Scripture said that the Christ comes from (BK)the descendants of David, and from Bethlehem, the village where David was?”
42 Hath not the scripture said, That Christ cometh of the seed of David, and out of the town of Bethlehem, where David was?
42 Doesn’t the Scripture(BE) say that the Messiah comes from David’s(BF) offspring(l) and from the town of Bethlehem,(BG) where David once lived?”
42 But some were saying, "The Messiah doesn't come from Galilee, does he? Doesn't the Scripture say that the Messiah is from David's family and from Bethlehem, the village where David lived?"
45 So the people were divided over him;
45 The (BN)officers then came to the chief priests and Pharisees, and they said to them, “Why did you not bring Him?”
45 Then came the officers to the chief priests and Pharisees; and they said unto them, Why have ye not brought him?
45 Then the temple police(BJ) came to the chief priests(BK) and Pharisees, who asked them, “Why haven’t you brought Him?”
45 Then the officers returned to the high priests and Pharisees, who asked them, "Why didn't you bring him?"
51 As for this mob, with its ignorance of the Law ??it is accursed!"
51 “(BU)Our Law does not judge a man unless it first hears from him and knows what he is doing, does it?”
51 Doth our law judge any man, before it hear him, and know what he doeth?
51 "Surely our Law does not condemn a person without first hearing from him and finding out what he is doing, does it?"
52 Nicodemus, one of their number (the same who had come to him before), said to them,
52 They answered him, “(BV)You are not also from Galilee, are you? Search, and see that no prophet arises out of Galilee.”
52 They answered and said unto him, Art thou also of Galilee? Search, and look: for out of Galilee ariseth no prophet.
52 “You aren’t from Galilee(BQ) too, are you?” they replied. “Investigate and you will see that no prophet arises from Galilee.”(n)(BR)
52 They answered him, "You aren't from Galilee, too, are you? Search and see that no prophet comes from Galilee."
54 They answered him, "And are you from Galilee, too? Search and you will see that no prophet ever springs from Galilee."
