. הֶ֝עְתִּ֗יקוּ

אַנְשֵׁ֤י ׀

The men

חִזְקִיָּ֬ה

ḥiz·qî·yāh

מֶֽלֶךְ־

me·leḵ-

. יְהוּדָֽה׃

yə·hū·ḏāh.

of Judah .

כְּבֹ֣ד

kə·ḇōḏ

[it is] the glory

אֱ֭לֹהִים

’ĕ·lō·hîm

of God

הַסְתֵּ֣ר

has·têr

､ דָּבָ֑ר

dā·ḇār;

a matter ､

וּכְבֹ֥ד

ū·ḵə·ḇōḏ

but the glory

מְ֝לָכִ֗ים

mə·lā·ḵîm,

חֲקֹ֣ר

ḥă·qōr

[is] to search out

. דָּבָֽר׃

dā·ḇār.

שָׁמַ֣יִם

šā·ma·yim

[As] the heavens

､ לָ֭רוּם

lā·rūm

וָאָ֣רֶץ

wā·’ā·reṣ

and the earth

､ לָעֹ֑מֶק

lā·‘ō·meq;

וְלֵ֥ב

wə·lêḇ

so the heart

מְ֝לָכִ֗ים

mə·lā·ḵîm,

אֵ֣ין

’ên

. חֵֽקֶר׃

ḥê·qer.

[is] unsearchable .

הָג֣וֹ

hā·ḡōw

סִיגִ֣ים

sî·ḡîm

､ מִכָּ֑סֶף

mik·kā·sep̄;

from silver ､

וַיֵּצֵ֖א

way·yê·ṣê

and it will go

לַצֹּרֵ֣ף

laṣ·ṣō·rêp̄

to the silversmith

. כֶּֽלִי׃

ke·lî.

[for] jewelry .

הָג֣וֹ

hā·ḡōw

רָ֭שָׁע

rā·šā‘

לִפְנֵי־

lip̄·nê-

､ מֶ֑לֶךְ

me·leḵ;

the king ､

וְיִכּ֖וֹן

wə·yik·kō·wn

and will be established

בַּצֶּ֣דֶק

baṣ·ṣe·ḏeq

in righteousness

. כִּסְאֽוֹ׃

kis·’ōw.

אַל־

’al-

Not

תִּתְהַדַּ֥ר

tiṯ·had·dar

do exalt yourself

לִפְנֵי־

lip̄·nê-

in the presence

､ מֶ֑לֶךְ

me·leḵ;

of the king ､

וּבִמְק֥וֹם

ū·ḇim·qō·wm

and in the place

גְּ֝דֹלִ֗ים

gə·ḏō·lîm,

of the great

אַֽל־

’al-

not

. תַּעֲמֹֽד׃

ta·‘ă·mōḏ.

do stand .

כִּ֤י

kî

ט֥וֹב

ṭō·wḇ

[it is] better

אֲמָר־

’ă·mār-

לְךָ֗

lə·ḵā,

to you

עֲ‍ֽלֵ֫ה

‘ălêh

– הֵ֥נָּה

hên·nāh

מֵֽ֭הַשְׁפִּ֣ילְךָ

mê·haš·pî·lə·ḵā

Than that you should be put lower

לִפְנֵ֣י

lip̄·nê

in the presence

נָדִ֑יב

nā·ḏîḇ;

of the prince

אֲשֶׁ֖ר

’ă·šer

רָא֣וּ

rā·’ū

. עֵינֶֽיךָ׃

‘ê·ne·ḵā.

אַל־

’al-

Not

תֵּצֵ֥א

tê·ṣê

do go

､ לָרִ֗ב

lā·riḇ,

to court ､

מַ֫הֵ֥ר

ma·hêr

פֶּ֣ן

pen

מַה־

mah-

תַּ֭עֲשֶׂה

ta·‘ă·śeh

will you do

בְּאַחֲרִיתָ֑הּ

bə·’a·ḥă·rî·ṯāh;

in the end

בְּהַכְלִ֖ים

bə·haḵ·lîm

when has put to shame

אֹתְךָ֣

’ō·ṯə·ḵā

. רֵעֶֽךָ׃

rê·‘e·ḵā.

your neighbor .

רִֽ֭יבְךָ

､ יְחַסֶּדְךָ֥

yə·ḥas·seḏ·ḵā

expose your shame ､

שֹׁמֵ֑עַ

he who hears [it]

וְ֝דִבָּתְךָ֗

wə·ḏib·bā·ṯə·ḵā,

and your reputation

. תָשֽׁוּב׃

ṯā·šūḇ.

תַּפּוּחֵ֣י

tap·pū·ḥê

זָ֭הָב

zā·hāḇ

בְּמַשְׂכִּיּ֥וֹת

bə·maś·kî·yō·wṯ

. כָּ֑סֶף

kā·sep̄;

דָּ֝בָ֗ר

dā·ḇār,

A word [is like]

דָּבֻ֥ר

dā·ḇur

עַל־

‘al-

. אָפְנָֽיו׃

’ā·p̄ə·nāw.

נֶ֣זֶם

ne·zem

[Like] an earring

､ זָ֭הָב

zā·hāḇ

of gold ､

וַחֲלִי־

wa·ḥă·lî-

and an ornament

､ כָ֑תֶם

ḵā·ṯem;

of fine gold ､

מוֹכִ֥יחַ

mō·w·ḵî·aḥ

[Is] a rebuker

חָ֝כָ֗ם

ḥā·ḵām,

עַל־

‘al-

to

אֹ֥זֶן

’ō·zen

an ear

. שֹׁמָֽעַת׃

šō·mā·‘aṯ.

כְּצִנַּת־

kə·ṣin·naṯ-

שֶׁ֨לֶג ׀

še·leḡ

בְּי֬וֹם

bə·yō·wm

､ קָצִ֗יר

qā·ṣîr,

of harvest ､

צִ֣יר

ṣîr

[Is] a messenger

נֶ֭אֱמָן

ne·’ĕ·mān

לְשֹׁלְחָ֑יו

lə·šō·lə·ḥāw;

to those who send him

וְנֶ֖פֶשׁ

wə·ne·p̄eš

אֲדֹנָ֣יו

’ă·ḏō·nāw

. יָשִֽׁיב׃

yā·šîḇ.

nə·śî·’îm

[Is like] clouds

וְ֭רוּחַ

wə·rū·aḥ

and wind

. וְגֶ֣שֶׁם

wə·ḡe·šem

and rain .

אָ֑יִן

’ā·yin;

אִ֥ישׁ

’îš

מִ֝תְהַלֵּ֗ל

miṯ·hal·lêl,

בְּמַתַּת־

bə·mat·taṯ-

. שָֽׁקֶר׃

šā·qer.

בְּאֹ֣רֶךְ

bə·’ō·reḵ

אַ֭פַּיִם

’ap·pa·yim

､ יְפֻתֶּ֣ה

yə·p̄ut·teh

is persuaded ､

קָצִ֑ין

qā·ṣîn;

וְלָשׁ֥וֹן

wə·lā·šō·wn

and a tongue

רַ֝כָּ֗ה

rak·kāh,

תִּשְׁבָּר־

tiš·bār-

. גָּֽרֶם׃

gā·rem.

a bone .

؟ דְּבַ֣שׁ

də·ḇaš

מָ֭צָאתָ

mā·ṣā·ṯā

אֱכֹ֣ל

’ĕ·ḵōl

דַּיֶּ֑ךָּ

day·ye·kā;

only as [much] as you need

פֶּן־

pen-

תִּ֝שְׂבָּעֶ֗נּוּ

tiś·bā·‘en·nū,

you be filled with it

. וַהֲקֵֽאתֽוֹ׃

wa·hă·qê·ṯōw.

and vomit .

הֹקַ֣ר

hō·qar

רַ֭גְלְךָ

raḡ·lə·ḵā

– מִבֵּ֣ית

mib·bêṯ

in house –

רֵעֶ֑ךָ

rê·‘e·ḵā;

of your neighbor

פֶּן־

pen-

יִ֝שְׂבָּעֲךָ֗

yiś·bā·‘ă·ḵā,

he become weary of you

. וּשְׂנֵאֶֽךָ׃

ū·śə·nê·’e·ḵā.

and hate you .

､ מֵפִ֣יץ

mê·p̄îṣ

[Is like] a club ､

､ וְ֭חֶרֶב

wə·ḥe·reḇ

and a sword ､

. וְחֵ֣ץ

wə·ḥêṣ

and a arrow .

שָׁנ֑וּן

šā·nūn;

אִ֥ישׁ

’îš

עֹנֶ֥ה

‘ō·neh

בְ֝רֵעֵ֗הוּ

ḇə·rê·‘ê·hū,

against his neighbor

עֵ֣ד

‘êḏ

. שָֽׁקֶר׃

šā·qer.

､ שֵׁ֣ן

šên

[Is like] a tooth ､

רֹ֭עָה

rō·‘āh

וְרֶ֣גֶל

wə·re·ḡel

and a foot

. מוּעָ֑דֶת

mū·‘ā·ḏeṯ;

מִבְטָ֥ח

miḇ·ṭāḥ

בּ֝וֹגֵ֗ד

bō·w·ḡêḏ,

in an unfaithful [man]

בְּי֣וֹם

bə·yō·wm

. צָרָֽה׃

ṣā·rāh.

מַ֥עֲדֶה

ma·‘ă·ḏeh

Like one who takes away

בֶּ֨גֶד ׀

be·ḡeḏ

､ בְּי֣וֹם

bə·yō·wm

in weather ､

קָ֭רָה

qā·rāh

חֹ֣מֶץ

ḥō·meṣ

[And like] vinegar

עַל־

‘al-

on

､ נָ֑תֶר

nā·ṯer;

soda ､

וְשָׁ֥ר

wə·šār

and [Is] one who sings

בַּ֝שִּׁרִ֗ים

baš·ši·rîm,

עַ֣ל

‘al

to

לֶב־

leḇ-

. רָֽע׃

rā‘.

’im-

If

רָעֵ֣ב

rā·‘êḇ

שֹׂ֭נַאֲךָ

na·’ă·ḵā

– הַאֲכִלֵ֣הוּ

ha·’ă·ḵi·lê·hū

give him to eat –

לָ֑חֶם

lā·ḥem;

וְאִם־

wə·’im-

and if

､ צָ֝מֵ֗א

ṣā·mê,

he is thirsty ､

– הַשְׁקֵ֥הוּ

haš·qê·hū

give him to drink –

. מָֽיִם׃

mā·yim.

כִּ֤י

kî

For [so]

גֶֽחָלִ֗ים

ḡe·ḥā·lîm,

אַ֭תָּה

’at·tāh

חֹתֶ֣ה

ḥō·ṯeh

will heap

עַל־

‘al-

on

､ רֹאשׁ֑וֹ

rō·šōw;

וַֽ֝יהוָ֗ה

Yah·weh

יְשַׁלֶּם־

yə·šal·lem-

. לָֽךְ׃

lāḵ.

ר֣וּחַ

rū·aḥ

The wind

צָ֭פוֹן

ṣā·p̄ō·wn

תְּח֣וֹלֵֽל

tə·ḥō·w·lêl

､ גָּ֑שֶׁם

gā·šem;

rain ､

וּפָנִ֥ים

ū·p̄ā·nîm

and a countenance

נִ֝זְעָמִ֗ים

niz·‘ā·mîm,

לְשׁ֣וֹן

lə·šō·wn

. סָֽתֶר׃

sā·ṯer.

ט֗וֹב

ṭō·wḇ,

[it is] better

שֶׁ֥בֶת

še·ḇeṯ

עַל־

‘al-

in

פִּנַּת־

pin·naṯ-

､ גָּ֑ג

gāḡ;

of a housetop ､

מֵאֵ֥שֶׁת

mê·’ê·šeṯ

Than with a woman

[מדונים]

mi·ḏō·w·nîm

-

(מִ֝דְיָנִ֗ים)

miḏ·yā·nîm,

וּבֵ֥ית

ū·ḇêṯ

and in a house

. חָֽבֶר׃

ḥā·ḇer.

מַ֣יִם

ma·yim

[As] water

קָ֭רִים

qā·rîm

עַל־

‘al-

to

､ נֶ֣פֶשׁ

ne·p̄eš

a soul ､

עֲיֵפָ֑ה

‘ă·yê·p̄āh;

וּשְׁמוּעָ֥ה

ū·šə·mū·‘āh

so [is] news

ט֝וֹבָ֗ה

ṭō·w·ḇāh,

מֵאֶ֥רֶץ

mê·’e·reṣ

. מֶרְחָֽק׃

mer·ḥāq.

､ מַעְיָ֣ן

ma‘·yān

[Is like] a spring ､

נִ֭רְפָּשׂ

nir·pāś

. וּמָק֣וֹר

ū·mā·qō·wr

and a well .

מָשְׁחָ֑ת

mā·šə·ḥāṯ;

צַ֝דִּ֗יק

ṣad·dîq,

a righteous [man]

מָ֣ט

māṭ

לִפְנֵֽי־

lip̄·nê-

. רָשָֽׁע׃

rā·šā‘.

the wicked .

אָ֘כֹ֤ל

’ā·ḵōl

To eat

､ דְּבַ֣שׁ

də·ḇaš

הַרְבּ֣וֹת

har·bō·wṯ

לֹא־

lō-

not

ט֑וֹב

ṭō·wḇ;

[it is] good

וְחֵ֖קֶר

wə·ḥê·qer

so to seek

כְּבֹדָ֣ם

kə·ḇō·ḏām

one's own glory

. כָּבֽוֹד׃

kā·ḇō·wḏ.

[is not] glory .

עִ֣יר

‘îr

[Is like] a city

､ פְּ֭רוּצָה

pə·rū·ṣāh

broken down ､

אֵ֣ין

’ên

. חוֹמָ֑ה

ḥō·w·māh;

אִ֝֗ישׁ

’îš,

אֲשֶׁ֤ר

’ă·šer

אֵ֖ין

’ên

no

מַעְצָ֣ר

ma‘·ṣār

. לְרוּחֽוֹ׃

lə·rū·ḥōw.

over his own spirit .
