Matthew 26:36-46 - The Prayer In Gethsemane

Matthew 26:36-46

36 THEN Jesus went with them to a place called Gethsemane, and said to the disciples, Sit here, till I go and pray there. 37 And taking Peter and the two sons of Zebedee, he began to be sorrowful and dejected. 38 Then he said to them, My soul is sorrowful even to death; remain here and watch with me. 39 And going forward a little, he fell on his face, and prayed and said, My Father, if it is possible let this cup pass from me; but not as I will, but as thou wilt.

40 And he came to the disciples and found them sleeping, and said to Peter, Are you so unable to watch with me one hour? 41 Watch and pray that you enter not into trial; the spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak.

42 Going away again a second time, he prayed, saying, My Father, if this cup cannot pass from me unless I drink it, thy will be done. 43 And he came and found them sleeping again, for their eyes were heavy.

44 And leaving them, again he went away and prayed, saying the same words. 45 Then he came to the disciples and said to them, Do you sleep still and take your rest? Behold the hour is at hand, and the Son of man is delivered into the hands of sinners. 46 Arise, let us go; behold, he that betrays me is at hand.

Mark 14:32-42

32 And they came to a place which was called Gethsemane; and he said to his disciples, Sit here, till I pray. 33 And he took Peter, and James, and John with him, and began to be amazed and dejected. 34 And he said to them, My soul is extremely sorrowful, even to death; remain here and watch. 35 And going forward a little he fell on the ground, and prayed that, if it was possible, the hour might pass away from him. 36 And he said, Abba, father, all things are possible to thee. Take away this cup from me; but not what I will but what thou wilt.

37 And he came and found them sleeping, and said to Peter, Simon, do you sleep? Could you not watch one hour? 38 Watch and pray that you enter not into trial; the spirit indeed is willing, but flesh is weak.

39 And again going away he prayed, saying the same words. 40 And again coming he found them sleeping; for their eyes were heavy; and they knew not what to answer him. 41 And he came a third time, and said to them, Sleep henceforth, and be refreshed. It is enough; the hour has come. Behold, the Son of man is betrayed into the hands of sinners! 42 arise, let us go; behold, he that betrays me is at hand!

Luke 22:39-46

39 AND going out, he went, according to his custom to the Mount of Olives; and the disciples followed him. 40 And arriving at the place, he said to them, Pray that you may not enter into trial. 41 And he withdrew from them about a stone's throw, and kneeling down, prayed, 42 saying, Father, if thou wilt, take this cup away from me; but not my will, but thine be done.

43 And an angel appeared to him from heaven, strengthening him. 44 And being in agony, he prayed more earnestly; and his sweat was like large drops of blood falling down to the ground. 45 And rising from prayer, and coming to the disciples, he found them sleeping from grief, 46 and he said to them, Why do you sleep? Arise, and pray that you may not enter into trial.
