A gentilic adjective applied to the descendants of a family of Kiriath-jearim (1Ch 2:53), amongst whom were two of David's guard (2Sa 23:38; 1Ch 11:40 Ira and Gareb). Possibly, however, the text of 2Sa 23 and 1Ch 11 should be pointed 'the Jattirite,' i.e. an inhabitant of Jattir (mentioned in 1Sa 30:27 as one of David's haunts) in the hill-country of Judah (Jos 15:48; 21:14).
