All her people groan, seeking bread;
They have exchanged their desirable and precious things for food
To restore their lives.
“See, O Lord, and consider
How despised and repulsive I have become!”

For these [things], I am weeping, {my eyes flow with tears}; because a comforter is far from me, one to restore my life. My sons are desolate because [the] enemy has prevailed.

I have called to my lovers, they themselves deceived me; my priests and elders perished in the city when they sought food for themselves to revive their life.

Look, LORD, how distressed I am; all my insides are churning. My heart is troubled within me, because I vigorously rebelled. Outside the sword brings loss of life, while at home death rules.

ט TetZion’s gates have fallen to the ground;
He has destroyed and shattered the bars on her gates.
Her king and her leaders live among the nations,
instruction is no more,
and even her prophets receive
no vision from the Lord.

To their mothers they say, "Where is the bread and wine?" as they faint like the wounded in [the] public squares of a city, as their life is being poured out onto the bosom of their mothers.

Arise, cry out in the night: in the beginning of the watches pour out thine heart like water before the face of the Lord: lift up thy hands toward him for the life of thy young children, that faint for hunger in the top of every street.

He has forced me to live in darkness, like those who are long dead.

He has made my life nothing but pain, he has given me the bitter root in full measure.

My life has been removed from peace, I have forgotten goodness.

The loyal love of Yahweh does not cease; his compassions do not come to an end.

For even though he causes grief he has compassion according to the greatness of his royal love.

Why should any living mortal, or any man,
Complain [of punishment] in view of his sins?

They have cut off my life in the dungeon, and cast a stone upon me.

O Lord, thou hast pleaded the causes of my soul; thou hast redeemed my life.

Depart! they cried to them, Unclean! depart, depart, don't touch! When they fled away and wandered, men said among the nations, They shall no more live [here].

The breath of our nostrils, the anointed of the LORD, was taken in their pits, of whom we said, Under his shadow we shall live among the heathen.

Celebrate and rejoice, you women of Edom, who live in the land of Uz. But to you the cup also will pass you will become drunk and stripped naked.

{We risk our life for food} because of the sword of the desert.

Bring us back to yourself, O Lord, so that we may return to you; renew our life as in days before,
