They asked him, “What then? Are you Elijah?” And he *said, “I am not.” “Are you the Prophet?” And he answered, “No.”

Philip *found Nathanael and *said to him, “We have found Him of whom Moses in the Law and also the Prophets wrote—Jesus of Nazareth, the son of Joseph.”

Nathanael said to him, “Can any good thing come out of Nazareth?” Philip *said to him, “Come and see.”

Jesus saw Nathanael coming to Him, and *said of him, “Behold, an Israelite indeed, in whom there is no deceit!”

Nathanael *said to Him, “How do You know me?” Jesus answered and said to him, “Before Philip called you, when you were under the fig tree, I saw you.”

Jesus answered and said to him, “Because I said to you that I saw you under the fig tree, do you believe? You will see greater things than these.”

When the wine ran out, the mother of Jesus *said to Him, “They have no wine.”

And Jesus *said to her, Woman, what does that have to do with us? My hour has not yet come.”

His mother *said to the servants, “Whatever He says to you, do it.”

Jesus *said to them, “Fill the waterpots with water.” So they filled them up to the brim.

for you have had five husbands, and the one whom you now have is not your husband; this you have said truly.”

Jesus *said to her, “Woman, believe Me, an hour is coming when neither in this mountain nor in Jerusalem will you worship the Father.

The woman *said to Him, “I know that Messiah is coming (He who is called Christ); when that One comes, He will declare all things to us.”

At this point His disciples came, and they were amazed that He had been speaking with a woman, yet no one said, “What do You seek?” or, “Why do You speak with her?”

So the woman left her waterpot, and went into the city and *said to the men,

But He said to them, “I have food to eat that you do not know about.”

The royal official *said to Him, “Sir, come down before my child dies.”

Jesus *said to him, Go; your son lives.” The man believed the word that Jesus spoke to him and started off.

So he inquired of them the hour when he began to get better. Then they said to him, “Yesterday at the seventh hour the fever left him.”

So the father knew that it was at that hour in which Jesus said to him, “Your son lives”; and he himself believed and his whole household.

When Jesus saw him lying there, and knew that he had already been a long time in that condition, He *said to him, “Do you wish to get well?”

Jesus *said to him, Get up, pick up your pallet and walk.”

But he answered them, “He who made me well was the one who said to me, ‘Pick up your pallet and walk.’

They asked him, “Who is the man who said to you, ‘Pick up your pallet and walk’?”

Afterward Jesus *found him in the temple and said to him, “Behold, you have become well; do not sin anymore, so that nothing worse happens to you.”

Therefore Jesus, lifting up His eyes and seeing that a large crowd was coming to Him, *said to Philip, “Where are we to buy bread, so that these may eat?”

One of His disciples, Andrew, Simon Peter’s brother, *said to Him,

Jesus said, “Have the people sit down.” Now there was much grass in the place. So the men sat down, in number about five thousand.

When they were filled, He *said to His disciples, “Gather up the leftover fragments so that nothing will be lost.”

Therefore when the people saw the sign which He had performed, they said, “This is truly the Prophet who is to come into the world.”

When they found Him on the other side of the sea, they said to Him, “Rabbi, when did You get here?”

Jesus answered them and said, “Truly, truly, I say to you, you seek Me, not because you saw signs, but because you ate of the loaves and were filled.

Therefore they said to Him, “What shall we do, so that we may work the works of God?”

So they said to Him, “What then do You do for a sign, so that we may see, and believe You? What work do You perform?

Jesus then said to them, “Truly, truly, I say to you, it is not Moses who has given you the bread out of heaven, but it is My Father who gives you the true bread out of heaven.

Then they said to Him, “Lord, always give us this bread.”

But I said to you that you have seen Me, and yet do not believe.

Therefore the Jews were grumbling about Him, because He said, “I am the bread that came down out of heaven.”

Jesus answered and said to them, “Do not grumble among yourselves.

These things He said in the synagogue as He taught in Capernaum.

But Jesus, conscious that His disciples grumbled at this, said to them, “Does this cause you to stumble?

And He was saying, “For this reason I have said to you, that no one can come to Me unless it has been granted him from the Father.”

So Jesus said to the twelve, “You do not want to go away also, do you?”

Therefore His brothers said to Him, “Leave here and go into Judea, so that Your disciples also may see Your works which You are doing.

So Jesus *said to them, My time is not yet here, but your time is always opportune.

Having said these things to them, He stayed in Galilee.

The Jews then said to one another, “Where does this man intend to go that we will not find Him? He is not intending to go to the Dispersion among the Greeks, and teach the Greeks, is He?

What is this statement that He said, You will seek Me, and will not find Me; and where I am, you cannot come’?”

Has not the Scripture said that the Christ comes from the descendants of David, and from Bethlehem, the village where David was?”

The officers then came to the chief priests and Pharisees, and they said to them, “Why did you not bring Him?”
