So Joshua established peace with them and made a treaty to let them live, and the leaders of the community swore an oath to them.

This is how we will treat them: we will let them live, so that no wrath will fall on us because of the oath we swore to them.”

The Lord said, "I will certainly come back to you in about a year's time, and your wife Sarah will have a son!" Now Sarah was listening at the entrance of the tent behind him. The land that I gave to Abraham and Isaac I will give to you. And I will give the land to your descendants after you. Then God withdrew from him at the place where He had spoken to him. This is the gate of heaven." Early in the morning Jacob took the stone that was near his head and set it up as a marker. Then Jacob made a vow: "If God will be with me and watch over me on this journey, if He provides me with food to eat and clothing to wear, and if I return safely to my father's house, then the Lord will be my God.
