He defeated the Moabites. He made them lie on the ground and then used a rope to measure them off. He put two-thirds of them to death and spared the other third. The Moabites became David's subjects and brought tribute.

The descendants of Joseph said to Joshua, "Why have you assigned us only one tribal allotment? After all, we have many people, for until now the Lord has enabled us to increase in number."

He drove the nations out from before them; he assigned them their tribal allotments and allowed the tribes of Israel to settle down.

"Therefore this is what the Lord says: 'Your wife will become a prostitute in the streets and your sons and daughters will die violently. Your land will be given to others and you will die in a foreign land. Israel will certainly be carried into exile away from its land.'"

I looked again, and there was a man with a measuring line in his hand.


tent pegs for the tabernacle and tent pegs for the courtyard and their ropes;

the hangings of the courtyard, its posts and its bases, and the curtain for the gateway of the courtyard, its ropes and its tent pegs, and all the furnishings for the service of the tabernacle, for the tent of meeting;

Make your tent larger, stretch your tent curtains farther out! Spare no effort, lengthen your ropes, and pound your stakes deep.


His advisers said to him, "Look, we have heard that the kings of the Israelite dynasty are kind. Allow us to put sackcloth around our waists and ropes on our heads and surrender to the king of Israel. Maybe he will spare our lives." So they put sackcloth around their waists and ropes on their heads and went to the king of Israel. They said, "Your servant Ben Hadad says, 'Please let me live!'" Ahab replied, "Is he still alive? He is my brother." The men took this as a good omen and quickly accepted his offer, saying, "Ben Hadad is your brother." Ahab then said, "Go, get him." So Ben Hadad came out to him, and Ahab pulled him up into his chariot.

But if they are bound in chains, and held captive by the cords of affliction,


The Lord is God and he has delivered us. Tie the offering with ropes to the horns of the altar!




Although an assailant may overpower one person, two can withstand him. Moreover, a three-stranded cord is not quickly broken.

Can you bind the wild ox to a furrow with its rope, will it till the valleys, following after you?


They said to him, "We promise! We will only take you prisoner and hand you over to them. We promise not to kill you." They tied him up with two brand new ropes and led him up from the cliff.


Therefore no one will assign you land in the Lord's community.


It is as if I have been given fertile fields or received a beautiful tract of land.


before the silver cord is removed, or the golden bowl is broken, or the pitcher is shattered at the well, or the water wheel is broken at the cistern --


The wicked will be captured by his own iniquities, and he will be held by the cords of his own sin.
