you shall surely set him king over yourselves, whom the LORD your God shall choose: one from among your brothers you shall set king over you; you may not put a foreigner over you, who is not your brother.


When you have come to the land which the LORD your God gives you, and shall possess it, and shall dwell therein, and shall say, "I will set a king over me, like all the nations that are around me"; you shall surely set him king over yourselves, whom the LORD your God shall choose: one from among your brothers you shall set king over you; you may not put a foreigner over you, who is not your brother. Neither shall he multiply wives to himself, that his heart not turn away: neither shall he greatly multiply to himself silver and gold. It shall be, when he sits on the throne of his kingdom, that he shall write him a copy of this law on a scroll, out of that which is before the priests the Levites: and it shall be with him, and he shall read therein all the days of his life; that he may learn to fear the LORD his God, to keep all the words of this law and these statutes, to do them; that his heart not be lifted up above his brothers, and that he not turn aside from the commandment, to the right hand, or to the left: to the end that he may prolong his days in his kingdom, he and his children, in the midst of Israel.

You, O king, are king of kings, to whom the God of heaven has given the kingdom, the power, and the strength, and the glory;

The sentence is by the decree of the watchers, and the demand by the word of the holy ones; to the intent that the living may know that the Most High rules in the kingdom of men, and gives it to whoever he will, and sets up over it the lowest of men.

But when his heart was lifted up, and his spirit was hardened so that he dealt proudly, he was removed from his kingly throne, and they took his glory from him.

Huram continued, "Blessed be the LORD, the God of Israel, that made heaven and earth, who has given to David the king a wise son, endowed with discretion and understanding, that should build a house for the LORD, and a house for his kingdom.

By me kings reign, and rulers decree justice.

I have given you a king in my anger, and have taken him away in my wrath.


It is not for kings, O Lemuel, it is not for kings to drink wine, or for princes to take strong drink, lest they drink, and forget the decree, and pervert the justice due to anyone who is afflicted.

However the LORD, the God of Israel, chose me out of all the house of my father to be king over Israel forever. Barley also and straw for the horses and swift steeds brought they to the place where the officers were, every man according to his duty.

The LORD said to Moses and Aaron, "This is the ordinance of the Passover. There shall no foreigner eat of it,

"You shall say to them, 'Any man there is of the house of Israel, or of the strangers who live as foreigners among them, who offers a burnt offering or sacrifice,
