They drank wine, and praised the gods of gold and of silver, of brass, of iron, of wood, and of stone.
Ye know that when ye were of the nations ye were led away to dumb idols, in whatever way ye might be led.
Hath a nation changed its gods? and they are no gods; but my people have changed their glory for that which doth not profit.

And they come unto thee as a people cometh, and they sit before thee as my people, and they hear thy words, but they do them not; for with their mouth they shew much love, but their heart goeth after their dishonest gain. And behold, thou art unto them as a lovely song, a pleasant voice, and one that playeth well on an instrument; and they hear thy words, but they do them not.
They profess to know God, but in works deny him, being abominable, and disobedient, and found worthless as to every good work.
Not every one who says to me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of the heavens, but he that does the will of my Father who is in the heavens.
Ardent lips, and a wicked heart, are as an earthen vessel overlaid with silver dross.
Children, let us not love with word, nor with tongue, but in deed and in truth.
And they remembered that God was their rock, and God, the Most High, their redeemer. But they flattered him with their mouth, and lied unto him with their tongue;
Hear ye this, house of Jacob, who are called by the name of Israel, and are come forth out of the waters of Judah, who swear by the name of Jehovah, and make mention of the God of Israel, not in truth, nor in righteousness.
But he answering said to them, Well did Esaias prophesy concerning you hypocrites, as it is written, This people honour me with their lips, but their heart is far away from me.

The hope of the righteous is joy; but the expectation of the wicked shall perish.
But the eyes of the wicked shall fail, and all refuge shall vanish from them, and their hope shall be the breathing out of life.
For what is the hope of the ungodly, when God cutteth him off, when +God taketh away his soul?
He saith in his heart, I shall not be moved; from generation to generation I shall be in no adversity.
