"If we say, 'From Heaven,' He will say, 'Why then did ye not believe him!' But, should we say, 'From men,'"??hey feared the people; for all held John to be a prophet indeed.

And they were seeking to lay hold of Him; and they feared the multitude; for they knew that He spake the parable against them; and, leaving Him, they went away.

But, if we say, 'From men,' we fear the multitude; for all hold John as a prophet."

And the high priests and scribes heard it, and were seeking how they might destroy Him; for they were fearing Him, for all the multitude was astonished at His teaching.


And they, when they had further threatened them, released them, finding no way to punish them, on account of the people; because all were glorifying God for what had taken place;

Then the captain, having gone away with the officers, brought them, not with violence, for they were fearing the people, lest they should be stoned;


Yet, however, even from among the rulers, many believed on Him; but, because of the Pharisees, they did not confess Him, lest they should be put out of the synagogue; for they loved the glory of men, rather than the glory of God.


but how he now sees, we do not know. Ask him; he is of age; he will speak for himself." These things said his parents, because they were fearing the Jews; for the Jews had agreed already, that, if any one should confess Him to be Christ, he should be put out of the synagogue.


And after these things Joseph of Arimathaea, being a disciple of Jesus, but secretly through fear of the Jews, asked of Pilate that he might take away the body of Jesus; and Pilate gave him permission. He came, therefore, and took away His body.


This man came to Jesus by night, and said to Him, "Rabbi, we know that Thou hast come, as a Teacher, from God; for no one can do the signs which Thou art doing, unless God be with Him."
