For Herod had arrested John, chained him, and put him in prison on account of Herodias, his brother Philip’s wife,
For Herod himself had given orders to arrest John and to chain him in prison on account of Herodias, his brother Philip’s wife, whom he had married.
But Herod the tetrarch, being rebuked by him about Herodias, his brother's wife, and about all the evil things Herod had done, added this to everything else-he locked John up in prison.
