Then he opened their understanding to understand the Scriptures, and said to them, Thus it is written, that the Christ should suffer, and rise from the dead on the third day, and that a change of mind and forgiveness of sins should be preached in his name to all nations, beginning from Jerusalem. You are witnesses of these things. Behold, I send the promise of my Father upon you; but remain in the city till you are endued with power from on high.

Then when it was evening, on that first day of the week, and the doors were shut where the disciples were for fear of the Jews, Jesus came and stood in the midst, and said to them, Peace be to you. And having said this he showed them both his hands and his side; then the disciples rejoiced when they saw the Lord.
