One of his disciples--the one whom Jesus loved--was reclining {close beside} Jesus.
The one who says [he] is in the light and hates his brother is in the darkness until now. The one who loves his brother resides in the light, and [there] is no cause for stumbling in him.
We know that we have passed over from death to life because we love the brothers. The one who does not love remains in death. Everyone who hates his brother is a murderer, and you know that every murderer does not have eternal life residing in him.
