And all who heard wondered at the things spoken to them by the shepherds. But Mary was closely keeping all these sayings, pondering them in her heart. And the shepherds returned, glorifying and praising God for all they heard and saw, as it was spoken to them.


And in the sixth month the angel Gabriel was sent from God to a city of Galilee, the name of which was Nazareth, to a virgin espoused to a man whose name was Joseph, of the house of David; and the name of the virgin was Mary. And the angel, answering, said to her, The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you; wherefore also the Holy Thing that is begotten shall be called the Son of God. And, behold, Elizabeth, your kinswoman, she also has conceived a son in her old age, and this is the sixth month with her who was called barren; because no word from God shall be without power." And Mary said, "Behold, the handmaid of the Lord; may it be to me according to your word." And the angel departed from her.
