People from the province of Judea and the city of Jerusalem went out to hear John. They confessed their sins and he baptized them in the Jordan River.

Many people were expecting the Messiah. They reasoned in their hearts concerning John: Perhaps he was the Messiah.

People from Jerusalem, Judea, and the whole Jordan Valley went to him. They confessed their sins and were baptized by John in the Jordan River.

Herod wanted to put him to death but he feared the people since they believed John was a prophet.

John came to you in the way of righteousness and you did not believe him. Even the tax collectors and prostitutes believed him. When you saw this, you did not regret your sins and did not have faith in him.

They feared the people. If we say from men the people would not like it because they all thought John was a true prophet.

He told the crowds that came to be baptized by him: You offspring of vipers, who warned you to flee from the wrath to come?

If we say from men all the people will stone us. They are persuaded that John was a prophet.

The next day John was standing with two of his disciples. He looked at Jesus as he walked, and said: Behold, the Lamb of God! The two disciples heard him speak and they followed Jesus. read more.
Jesus turned and saw them following. He asked them, What are you after? They asked him: Teacher, where are you staying? He said Come and see. So they came to where he was staying. They stayed with him that day. It was about the tenth hour. One of the two, who heard John speak and followed him, was Andrew, Simon Peter's brother.
