So they came out and went into the swine; and behold, the whole herd rushed down the steep bank into the sea, and perished in the water. Then those who kept them fled, and they went away into the city and told everything, including what had happened to the demon-possessed men. And behold, the whole city came out to meet Jesus. And when they saw him, they begged him to leave their region.

And he begged him eagerly not to send them out of the country. Now a large herd of swine was feeding there on the hillside. So all the demons begged him, "Send us to the swine, that we may enter them." So he gave them permission. And the unclean spirits came out, and entered the swine; and the herd, numbering about two thousand, rushed down the steep bank into the sea, and were drowned in the sea. So those who fed the swine fled, and told it in the city and in the country. And people went out to see what it was that had happened. And they came to Jesus, and saw the man who had been possessed sitting there, clothed and in his right mind, the man who had had the legion; and they were afraid. And those who had seen it told the people what had happened to the demon-possessed man, and about the swine. Then they began to plead with Jesus to depart from their region. And as he was getting into the boat, the man who had been demon-possessed begged him that he might be with him. Jesus did not let him, but said, "Go home to your friends and tell them how much the Lord has done for you, and how he has had mercy on you." And he went away and began to proclaim in the Decapolis how much Jesus had done for him; and all men marveled.

Then they sailed to the country of the Gerasenes, which is opposite Galilee. When he stepped out on land, there met him a man from the city who had demons. For a long time he had worn no clothes, and he lived not in a house but in the tombs. When he saw Jesus, he cried out and fell down before him, and said with a loud voice, "What have you to do with me, Jesus, Son of the Most High God? I beg you, do not torment me!" read more.

For many times it had seized him, and he was kept under guard, bound with chains and shackles; and he broke the bonds and was driven by the demon into the wilderness. Jesus asked him, "What is your name?" And he said, "Legion"; because many demons had entered him. And they begged him repeatedly not to command them to go into the Abyss. Now a large herd of swine was feeding there on the hillside; and they begged him to let them enter them. So he gave them permission. Then the demons came out of the man and entered the swine, and the herd rushed down the steep bank into the lake and were drowned.
