Come; see the place where the Lord lay. Go quickly and tell his disciples he has risen from the dead. See, he goes before you to Galilee. You will see him there, as I have told you. They departed quickly from the tomb, with fear and great joy. They ran to bring his disciples the news.

She said: Sir, if you have carried him somewhere else tell me where you laid him and I will take him away. Jesus said: Mary. She turned and said to him in Hebrew: Rabboni, which is to say, Teacher. Jesus said: Do not touch me for I am not yet ascended to the Father. Go to my brothers, and say to them, I ascend to my Father and you're Father, and my God and your God. Suddenly, one of them ran, took a sponge, filled it with vinegar, put it on a reed, and gave it to him to drink. The rest said: Let it be, and see whether Elijah comes to save him. Jesus cried again with a loud voice and yielded up his spirit. The veil (curtain) of the temple was ripped in two from the top to the bottom. The earth quaked and the rocks split. The tombs were split open and many [dead] bodies were tossed upright [on the ground]. [They came out of the tombs after his resurrection.] (Manuscript text unclear.) Many people saw them. The centurion and those who were with him watching Jesus saw the earthquake. Filled with much fear of the things that were done, they proclaimed: Truly, this was the Son of God! Jesus cried out with a loud voice, and breathed his last breath of life. The veil of the temple was torn in two from the top to the bottom. The centurion who stood nearby heard him cry out his last breath. Then he said: Truly this man was the Son of God! The women watching from afar included: Mary Magdalene, and Mary the mother of James the less and of Joses, and Salome, who, when he was in Galilee, followed him and served him. Many other women came up with him to Jerusalem.

They came to the place called the skull. They impaled him and the criminals, one on the right hand and the other on the left. The soldiers mocked him and offered him vinegar, saying: If you are the King of the Jews save yourself. There was a superscription over him, THIS IS THE KING OF THE JEWS. One of the criminals who were hanged complained bitterly to him saying: Are you the Christ? Save yourself and us. The other rebuked him saying: Do you not respect God, seeing you are also condemned? We are indeed justly condemned for we receive the due reward of our deeds. But this man has done nothing wrong. He said: Jesus, remember me when you come in your kingdom. He replied: Today I tell you this. You will be with me in paradise. It was about the sixth hour. Darkness came over the whole land until the ninth hour. The sun failed to shine. The veil of the temple was torn in two. Jesus cried with a loud voice: Father, into your hands I commend my spirit. After saying this he quit breathing. The centurion saw what was done and glorified God, saying: Certainly this was a righteous man. The crowds gathered at this sight. When they saw the things that were done they left beating their breasts. All of his friends and the women who followed him from Galilee stood watching from a distance.

They impaled him there. Two others were impaled and Jesus stake was placed in the middle. Pilate wrote a title and put it on the stake. There it was written, JESUS OF NAZARETH, THE KING OF THE JEWS. This title was read by many of the Jews, for the place where Jesus was impaled was near the city. It was written in Hebrew, Latin and Greek. read more.
The chief priests of the Jews said to Pilate: Do not write, The King of the Jews; but that he said, I am King of the Jews. Pilate answered: What I have written, I have written. After they impaled Jesus the soldiers took his garments and made four parts, one for each soldier. The coat was without seam, woven from the top throughout. They said to one another, Let us not tear the coat. So they cast lots for it. That fulfilled the scripture that said: They parted my garments among them, and they cast lots for my covering. He said to his mother, Woman, look, your son! Then he said to the disciple, Look, your mother! That hour forward the disciple took her to his home. He knew that it was over. In order that the scripture might be accomplished, he said: I thirst. A vessel full of vinegar was setting there. They put a sponge full of vinegar upon a hyssop branch and brought it to his mouth. When Jesus received the vinegar, he said, it is finished. He bowed his head, and he stopped breathing.

Traveling with him were the women who had been healed of evil spirits and infirmities. This included Mary Magdalene, from whom seven demons had gone out. They were perplexed about what had happened. Two men stood by them in dazzling apparel. This frightened them and they bowed down prostrate on the ground. The two men said to them: Why do you seek the living among the dead? He is not here. He has arisen! Remember how he spoke to you when he was yet in Galilee. He said the Son of man must be delivered into the hands of sinful men, be impaled, and the third day rise again. They remembered his words. When they returned from the tomb they told all these things to the eleven, and to all the rest. They were Mary Magdalene, Joanna, Mary the mother of James, and the other women with them. They told these things to the apostles.

Mary Magdalene arrived at the tomb early on the first day of the week while it was still dark. She saw the stone was taken away from the tomb. She ran to Simon Peter and the other disciple whom Jesus loved and said to them: They have taken the Lord away out of the tomb. We do not know where they laid him.
