Nathaniel asked him, "How do you know me?" Jesus answered him, "Before Philip called you, while you were under the fig tree, I saw you." Nathaniel replied to him, "Rabbi, you are the Son of God! You are the King of Israel!" Jesus told him, "Do you believe because I told you that I saw you under the fig tree? You will see greater things than that."


When Jesus looked up and saw that a large crowd was coming toward him, he asked Philip, "Where can we buy bread for these people to eat?" Jesus said this to test him, because he himself knew what he was going to do. Philip answered him, "Two hundred denarii worth of bread isn't enough for each of them to have a little."


The next day, Jesus decided to go away to Galilee, where he found Philip and told him, "Follow me."
