That the triumphing of the wicked is short, and the joy of the hypocrite but for a moment?

And whatever my eyes desired I kept not from them, I withheld not my heart from any joy; for my heart rejoiced in all my labor: and this was my portion of all my labor.

For as the crackling of thorns under a pot, so is the laughter of the fool: this also is vanity.

And gladness is taken away, and joy from the plentiful field; and in the vineyards there shall be no singing, neither shall there be shouting: the treaders shall tread out no wine in their presses; I have made their vintage-shouting to cease.

Be afflicted, and mourn, and weep: let your laughter be turned to mourning, and your joy to heaviness.







Sorrow is better than laughter: for by the sadness of the countenance the heart is made better.

Folly is joy to him that is destitute of wisdom: but a man of understanding walketh uprightly.

But because I have said these things to you, sorrow hath filled your heart.
