Thematic Bible: The reward for forsaking the law

He shall cry to Me, You are my Father, my God, and the Rock of my salvation! Also I will make him the firstborn, the highest of the kings of the earth. My mercy and loving-kindness will I keep for him forevermore, and My covenant shall stand fast and be faithful with him. read more.
His Offspring also will I make to endure forever, and his throne as the days of heaven. If his children forsake My law and walk not in My ordinances, If they break or profane My statutes and keep not My commandments, Then will I punish their transgression with the rod [of chastisement], and their iniquity with stripes.

And the Lord says, Because they have forsaken My law, which I set before them, and have not listened to and obeyed My voice or walked in accordance with it But have walked stubbornly after their own hearts and after the Baals, as their fathers taught them, Therefore thus says the Lord of hosts, the God of Israel: Behold, I will feed them, even this people, with wormwood and give them bitter and poisonous water to drink. read more.
I will scatter them also among nations that neither they nor their fathers have known, and I will send the sword among them and after them until I have consumed them.
