just as it is written,
Behold, I lay in Zion a stone of stumbling and a rock of offense,
And he who believes in Him will not be disappointed.”

“Then He shall become a sanctuary;
But to both the houses of Israel, a stone to strike and a rock to stumble over,
And a snare and a trap for the inhabitants of Jerusalem.

and,
A stone of stumbling and a rock of offense”;
for they stumble because they are disobedient to the word, and to this doom they were also appointed.



But I, brethren, if I still preach circumcision, why am I still persecuted? Then the stumbling block of the cross has been abolished.


Who has believed our message? And to whom has the arm of the LORD been revealed? For He grew up before Him like a tender shoot, And like a root out of parched ground; He has no stately form or majesty That we should look upon Him, Nor appearance that we should be attracted to Him. And they took offense at Him But Jesus said to them, "A prophet is not without honor except in his hometown and in his own household."


"It is not what enters into the mouth that defiles the man, but what proceeds out of the mouth, this defiles the man." Then the disciples came and said to Him, "Do You know that the Pharisees were offended when they heard this statement?"


"This is the bread which came down out of heaven; not as the fathers ate and died; he who eats this bread will live forever." These things He said in the synagogue as He taught in Capernaum. But Jesus, conscious that His disciples grumbled at this, said to them, "Does this cause you to stumble?


Why? Because they did not pursue it by faith, but as though it were by works. They stumbled over the stumbling stone,
