Are both repulsive to the Lord.
Who justify the wicked and acquit the guilty for a bribe,
And take away the rights of those who are in the right!
To show respect to the wicked person is not good,
Nor to push aside and deprive the righteous of justice.
They band themselves together against the life of the righteous
And condemn the innocent to death.
He who says to the wicked, “You are righteous,”
Peoples will curse him, nations will denounce him;
Keep far away from a false charge or action, and do not condemn to death the innocent or the righteous, for I will not justify and acquit the guilty.

But how can a mortal man be right before God?

This was to demonstrate His righteousness [which demands punishment for sin], because in His forbearance [His deliberate restraint] He passed over the sins previously committed [before Jesus’ crucifixion]. It was to demonstrate His righteousness at the present time, so that He would be just and the One who justifies those who have faith in Jesus [and rely confidently on Him as Savior].
