And as he passed by, he saw a man that had been blind from his birth. And his disciples asked him, saying: Rabbi, who sinned, this man, or his parents, that he was born blind? Jesus answered: Neither this man sinned, nor his parents; but that the works of God might be made manifest in him.

Therefore his sisters sent to him, saying: Lord, behold, he whom thou lovest is sick. But when Jesus heard it, he said: This sickness is not to death, but for the glory of God, that by it the Son of God may be glorified.

Verily, verily I say to you, when you were young, you girded yourself, and walked whither you chose; but when you have become old, you shall stretch forth your hands, and another shall gird you, and lead you whither you would not. But this he said, signifying by what death he would glorify God. And when he had spoken this, he said to him: Follow me.
