Jesus answered them, "Truly I tell you, everyone who commits sin is the bondservant of sin.
and they may recover themselves out of the devil's snare, having been taken captive by him to his will.

This was because of the false brothers secretly brought in, who stole in to spy out our liberty which we have in Christ Jesus, that they might bring us into bondage; to whom we gave no place in the way of subjection, not for an hour, that the truth of the Good News might continue with you.
Stand firm therefore in the liberty by which Christ has made us free, and do not be entangled again with a yoke of bondage.
Therefore he says, "When he ascended on high, he led captivity captive, and gave gifts to men."
You have ascended on high. You have led away captives. You have received gifts among men, yes, among the rebellious also, that the LORD, God, might dwell there.
