And the high priests and all the sanhedrim were seeking false testimony against Jesus, in order that they might kill Him.

Command therefore that the tomb be made safe until the third day, lest His disciples having come, may steal Him away, and say to the people, He is risen from the dead: and the last error shall be worse than the first.read more.
Pilate said to them, You have a watch: go, make it safe as you know. And having gone, they secured the tomb, sealing the stone, with the guard.
And they going, behold, certain ones of the watch having come into the city, proclaimed to the chief priests all things which had taken place. And being assembled along with the elders, and taking counsel, they gave much money to the soldiers, saying, You tell, that His disciples, having come by night, stole Him away while we slept.read more.
And if this may be heard by the governor, we will persuade him and make you secure. And they having received the money, did as they were instructed: and this report is current among the Jews until this day.
Then they cried out, Take Him away, take Him away, crucify Him. Pilate says to them, Shall I crucify your King? And the chief priests responded, We have no king but Caesar.
And having been released they came to their own people, and proclaimed so many things as the chief priests and elders said to them.
