In those days people will seek death, and will in no way find it. They will desire to die, and death will flee from them.

"'Why, then, have you brought me forth out of the womb? I wish I had given up the spirit, and no eye had seen me.

Therefore now, LORD, take, I beg you, my life from me; for it is better for me to die than to live."
It happened, when the sun arose, that God prepared a sultry east wind; and the sun beat on Jonah's head, so that he fainted, and requested for himself that he might die, and said, "It is better for me to die than to live."
Then they will begin to tell the mountains, 'Fall on us.' and tell the hills, 'Cover us.'

The high places also of Aven, the sin of Israel, will be destroyed. The thorn and the thistle will come up on their altars. They will tell the mountains, "Cover us." and the hills, "Fall on us."
Though they dig into Sheol, there my hand will take them; and though they climb up to heaven, there I will bring them down.
My enemies speak evil against me: "When will he die, and his name perish?"
For my enemies talk about me. Those who watch for my soul conspire together,
in that you love those who hate you, and hate those who love you. For you have declared this day, that leaders and servants are nothing to you. For today I perceive that if Absalom had lived, and all we had died this day, then it would have pleased you well.
