It is the spirit which maketh alive; the flesh profiteth nothing. The words which I have spoken to you are spirit, and are life. But there are some of you who do not believe. For Jesus knew from the beginning who they were that did not believe, and who it was that would betray him. And he said, For this cause I have told you, that no one can come to me, unless it hath been given him from the Father.

For by grace ye have been saved, through faith; and this is not of yourselves; it is the gift of God; not of works, lest any one should boast.

He saith to them, But who do ye say that I am? And Simon Peter answering said, Thou art the Christ, the Son of the living God. And Jesus answering said to him, Blessed art thou, Simon, son of Jonah; for flesh and blood did not reveal it to thee, but my Father who is in heaven.

Faith then cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.
