For we have brought nothing into this world and so we cannot take a single thing out either.

Tell them to do good, to be rich in good deeds, to be generous givers, sharing with others. In this way they will save up a treasure for themselves as a firm foundation for the future and so lay hold of what is truly life.
For what benefit is it for a person to gain the whole world, yet forfeit his life? What can a person give in exchange for his life?
For what does it benefit a person if he gains the whole world but loses or forfeits himself?
"Surely you know that it has been from old, ever since humankind was placed on the earth, that the elation of the wicked is brief, the joy of the godless lasts but a moment.
Lord, use your power to deliver me from these murderers, from the murderers of this world! They enjoy prosperity; you overwhelm them with the riches they desire. They have many children, and leave their wealth to their offspring.
But Abraham said, 'Child, remember that in your lifetime you received your good things and Lazarus likewise bad things, but now he is comforted here and you are in anguish. Besides all this, a great chasm has been fixed between us, so that those who want to cross over from here to you cannot do so, and no one can cross from there to us.'
"Absolutely futile!" laments the Teacher, "All of these things are futile!"
For the wisdom of this age is foolishness with God. As it is written, "He catches the wise in their craftiness."
