Husbands, love your wives, just as the Christ loved the Church, and gave himself for her,

Now that, by your obedience to the Truth, you have purified your lives, so that there is growing up among you a genuine brotherly affection, love one another earnestly with all your hearts;

If I, then--'the Master' and 'the Teacher'--have washed your feet, you also ought to wash one another's feet; For I have given you an example, so that you may do just as I have done to you.

But God puts his love for us beyond all doubt by the fact that Christ died on our behalf while we were still sinners.
