What I tell you in the dark, speak in the light. What you hear in a whisper, proclaim on the housetops. Don’t fear those who kill the body but are not able to kill the soul; rather, fear Him who is able to destroy both soul and body in hell.
We cared so much for you that we were pleased to share with you not only the gospel of God but also our own lives, because you had become dear to us.
Proclaim the message; persist in it whether convenient or not; rebuke, correct, and encourage with great patience and teaching.
As God is faithful, our message to you is not “Yes and no.” For the Son of God, Jesus Christ, who was preached among you by us—by me and Silvanus and Timothy—did not become “Yes and no”; on the contrary, a final “Yes” has come in Him.
Pay close attention to your life and your teaching; persevere in these things, for by doing this you will save both yourself and your hearers.
To be sure, some preach Christ out of envy and strife, but others out of good will. These do so out of love, knowing that I am appointed for the defense of the gospel; the others proclaim Christ out of rivalry, not sincerely, seeking to cause me anxiety in my imprisonment.
What then is my reward? To preach the gospel and offer it free of charge and not make full use of my authority in the gospel.
For you remember our labor and hardship, brothers. Working night and day so that we would not burden any of you, we preached God’s gospel to you.
