15 Bible Verses about Pitilessness

An evil man seeks only rebellion;
a cruel messenger will be sent against him.

He has made us competent to be ministers of a new covenant, not of the letter, but of the Spirit. For the letter kills, but the Spirit produces life.

“But God said to him, ‘You fool! This very night your life is demanded of you. And the things you have prepared—whose will they be?’

The fatherless infant is snatched from the breast;
the nursing child of the poor is seized as collateral.

But when I stumbled, they gathered in glee;

Assailants I did not know
tore at me and did not stop.

Instead, they gave me gall for my food,
and for my thirst
they gave me vinegar to drink.

Singing songs to a troubled heart
is like taking off clothing on a cold day
or like pouring vinegar on soda.

A destitute leader who oppresses the poor
is like a driving rain that leaves no food.

The Lord says:

I will not relent from punishing Edom
for three crimes, even four,
because he pursued his brother with the sword.
He stifled his compassion,
his anger tore at them continually,
and he harbored his rage incessantly.

But he wasn’t willing. On the contrary, he went and threw him into prison until he could pay what was owed.

In the same way, a Levite, when he arrived at the place and saw him, passed by on the other side.

Their bows will cut young men to pieces.
They will have no compassion on little ones;
they will not look with pity on children.

“At this, his fellow slave fell down and began begging him, ‘Be patient with me, and I will pay you back.’

Jesus took up the question and said: “A man was going down from Jerusalem to Jericho and fell into the hands of robbers. They stripped him, beat him up, and fled, leaving him half dead. A priest happened to be going down that road. When he saw him, he passed by on the other side. In the same way, a Levite, when he arrived at the place and saw him, passed by on the other side.
