and constant friction between men of depraved mind and deprived of the truth, who imagine that godliness is a means of gain.

They must be silenced, because they are upsetting whole families by teaching things they ought not to teach for the sake of sordid gain.

Until I come, devote yourself to the public reading of Scripture, to preaching and to teaching. Do not neglect the gift you have, which was given you through prophetic utterance when the council of elders laid their hands on you. Be diligent in these matters; give yourself wholly to them, so that all may see your progress.

All scripture is inspired by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness; so that the man of God may be complete, equipped for every good work.

This is a trustworthy saying; and concerning these things I want you to speak confidently, so that those who have believed God may be careful to devote themselves to good deeds. These things are excellent and profitable for men.

But godliness with contentment is itself great gain.

For bodily training is of some value, but godliness is of value in all things, as it holds promise for the present life and also for the life to come.

For they disciplined us for a short time as seemed best to them, but he disciplines us for our good, that we may share his holiness.

But to each one is given the manifestation of the Spirit for the common good.

To one he gave five talents, to another two, and to another one, to each according to his ability. Then he went on his journey. Then you ought to have deposited my money with the bankers, and at my coming I would have received back my own with interest. Therefore take the talent from him, and give it to him who has the ten talents. For to every one who has will more be given, and he will have abundance; but from him who does not have, even what he has will be taken away. And cast the worthless servant into the outer darkness. There will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.'

As they heard these things, he went on to tell a parable, because he was near to Jerusalem, and because they thought that the kingdom of God was to appear immediately. Therefore he said: "A certain nobleman went into a far country to receive for himself a kingdom and then return. So he called ten of his servants, gave them ten minas, and said to them, 'Do business till I come.'read more.
But his citizens hated him and sent a delegation after him, saying, 'We do not want this man to reign over us.' And so it was that when he returned, having received the kingdom, he then commanded these servants, to whom he had given the money, to be called to him, that he might know what they had gained by trading. Then came the first, saying, ' Master, your mina has earned ten minas more.' And he said to him, 'Well done, good servant! Because you have been faithful in a very little, be in authority over ten cities.' And the second came, saying, 'Master, your mina has earned five minas.' Likewise he said to him, 'You also be over five cities.' Then another came, saying, 'Master, here is your mina, which I have kept laid away in a handkerchief; for I was afraid of you, because you are a hard man. You take up what you did not lay down, and reap what you did not sow.' He said to him, 'I will judge you out of your own mouth, you wicked servant! You knew that I was a hard man, taking up what I did not lay down and reaping what I did not sow? Why then did you not put my money in the bank, that at my coming I might have collected it with interest?' And he said to those who stood by, 'Take the mina from him, and give it to him who has ten minas.' And they said to him, 'Master, he has ten minas already!' 'I tell you, that to every one who has will more be given; but from him who has not, even what he has will be taken away. But those enemies of mine, who did not want me to reign over them, bring them here and slay them before me.'"

And every one who has left houses or brothers or sisters or father or mother or children or lands, for my name's sake, will receive a hundredfold, and inherit eternal life.

Jesus said, "Truly, I say to you, there is no one who has left house or brothers or sisters or mother or father or children or lands, for my sake and for the gospel, who will not receive a hundredfold now in this timehouse and brothers and sisters and mothers and children and lands, with persecutions, and in the age to come, eternal life.

So he said to them, "Truly, I say to you, there is no one who has left house or parents or brothers or wife or children, for the sake of the kingdom of God, who will not receive many times more in this time, and in the age to come eternal life."

Women received back their dead, raised to life again. Others were tortured and refused to be released, so that they might gain a better resurrection.

For to me, to live is Christ and to die is gain.

I am hard pressed between the two. My desire is to depart and be with Christ, for that is far better;

What good will it be for a man if he gains the whole world, and forfeits his soul? Or what can a man give in exchange for his soul?

For what does it profit a man to gain the whole world, and forfeit his soul?

For what profit is it to a man if he gains the whole world, and loses or forfeits himself?

But whatever was gain to me, I counted as loss for the sake of Christ.

If I speak in the tongues of men and of angels, but have not love, I am a noisy gong or a clanging cymbal. If I have the gift of prophecy, and understand all mysteries and all knowledge; and if I have all faith, so as to remove mountains, but have not love, I am nothing. If I give all I have to the poor, and if I surrender my body to be burned, but have not love, I gain nothing.

But now, brethren, if I come to you speaking in tongues, what will I profit you unless I bring you some revelation or knowledge or prophecy or teaching?

For we also have had the good news preached to us, just as they did; but the message they heard was of no value to them, because those who heard did not combine it with faith.

But avoid foolish controversies and genealogies and strife and quarrels about the Law, for they are unprofitable and useless.

It is the Spirit who gives life; the flesh profits nothing. The words that I have spoken to you are spirit, and they are life.

What good is it, my brethren, if a man says he has faith but has no works? Can such faith save him?
