but the animal man does not receive the effusions of the spirit of God; for they are foolishness to him; neither can he understand them, because they are spiritually discerned.

and the Light shineth in darkness, but the darkness did not receive it.

some of the Pharisees who were then present hearing this, said to him, are we likewise blind? Jesus said to them, if you were blind, you would be excusable; but since you own that you see, you stand convicted.

therefore speak I to them in parables: because they over-look what they see: and are inattentive to what they hear, neither will they comprehend.

he answered, the secret circumstances of the divine dispensation may be clearly revealed to you, but to others only in parables, so that they don't observe what they see, nor comprehend what they hear.
