And when he reached the stairs, he was obliged to be borne by the soldiers, on account of the violence of the crowd; for the multitude of the people were following, crying out, Away with him!

Acts 23:12-15

And when it was day, the Jews banded together, and bound themselves under a curse, saying that they would neither eat nor drink till they had killed Paul. And there were more than forty who took this oath together.
