Then the Israelites cried out to Jehovah. So he sent someone to free them. This was Ehud, a left-handed man, who was the son of Gera, from the tribe of Benjamin. The people of Israel sent Ehud to King Eglon of Moab with gifts for him.

He defeated the Moabites. He made the prisoners lie down on the ground and put two out of every three of them to death. So the Moabites became his subjects and paid taxes to him.

He also defeated Moab, and the Moabites became David's subjects and paid taxes to him.

Then he set up military camps in their territory. They became his subjects and paid taxes to him. Jehovah made David victorious everywhere.

Jehoiakim gave the silver and gold to Pharaoh. He ordered that the land be taxed to get the money. All the people of the land had to give silver and gold in order to make the payment to Pharaoh Necho.

Jehovah again spoke to Moses: When you take a census of the people of Israel, each man is to pay me a price for his life. Every man being counted in the census who is twenty years old or older is to pay me this amount. The rich man is not to pay more. The poor man is not to pay less, when they pay this amount for their lives. Collect this money from the people of Israel and spend it for the upkeep of the tent of meeting. This tax will be the payment for their lives. I will remember to protect them.

In those days a decree went out from Caesar Augustus that a census should be taken of all the inhabited earth.

Each year King Solomon received about twenty-five tons of gold. This was in addition to what came to him from the business of the traders, and from all the kings of the Arabians, and from the rulers of the country.

The gold that came to Solomon in one year weighed forty nine thousand nine hundred and fifty pounds, not counting the gold that the merchants and traders brought. All the Arab kings and governors of the land also brought gold and silver to Solomon.

Then Samuel told the people who had asked him for a king everything Jehovah said. Samuel said: These are the rights of a king: He will draft your sons and make them serve on his chariots and horses, and make them run ahead of his chariots. He will appoint them to be his officers over one thousand or over fifty soldiers. He will have them plow his ground and harvest his crops. He will take your daughters from you and force them to make perfumes, cook, and bake. He will take away the best of your fields, vineyards, and olive orchards and give them to his officials. He will take a tenth of your grain and wine and give it to his aids and officials. He will confiscate your male and female slaves, your best cattle, and your donkeys for his own use. He will take a tenth of your flocks. In addition, you will be his servants. You will cry out because of the king whom you have chosen for yourselves. Jehovah will not answer you when that day comes.

Then one will stand up in his place who will send an oppressor (tax collecter) to pass through the glory of the kingdom. However, he will be destroyed within a few days, neither in anger, nor in battle.

One-tenth of what comes from the land, whether grain or fruit, is holy and belongs to Jehovah. If you buy back any part of it, you must add one-fifth more to it. Every tenth head of cattle or sheep that you counted is holy and belongs to Jehovah.read more.
You must not look to see if it is good or bad or exchange it. If you do exchange it, both the first animal and its substitute will be holy. They may not be bought back.'

At the end of every third year bring the tithe of all your crops and store it in your towns. This food is for the Levites, since they own no property, and for the foreigners, orphans, and widows who live in your towns. They are to come and get all they need. Do this, and Jehovah your God will bless you in everything you do.

I ask you: 'will you rob and defraud God? Of course not, yet you are robbing and defrauding me!' 'How have we robbed and defrauded?' You ask. 'In the matter of tithes and offerings.' A curse is on all of you because the whole nation is cheating me. Bring the whole tithe into the storehouse. Test me, said Jehovah of Hosts, and see if I will open the windows of heaven and pour out showers of blessing upon you until there is no more want.

He told the people living in Jerusalem to give the priests and Levites the portions they were due so that they could devote themselves to Jehovah's Law.

They arrived at Capernaum. The collectors of the two-drachma tax asked Peter: Does your master make payment of the Temple tax? He said: Yes. When he entered the house, Jesus said to him: What is your opinion, Simon? Who pays the tax assessed by the kings of the earth? Is it from their sons or from other people? Joash wanted to renovate Jehovah's Temple. He gathered the priests and the Levites and said to them: Go to the cities of Judah, and collect money throughout Israel to repair the Temple of your God every year. Do it immediately! But the Levites did not do it immediately. The king called for the chief priest Jehoiada and asked him: Why have you not required the Levites to bring the contributions from Judah and Jerusalem? The sons of that wicked woman Athaliah had broken into God's Temple and used all the holy things of Jehovah's Temple to worship other gods, the Baals. The king issued an order. They made a box and placed it outside the gate of Jehovah's Temple. They issued a proclamation in Judah and Jerusalem that the contributions should be brought to Jehovah. Moses required Israel to make contributions while they were in the desert. All the officials and all the people were filled with joy. They brought money and dropped it into the box until it was full. When the Levites brought the box to the king's officers and they saw a lot of money. The king's scribe and the chief priest's officer would empty the box and put it back in its place. They would do this every day. They collected a lot of money. The king and Jehoiada gave the money to the foremen who were working on Jehovah's Temple. They hired masons and carpenters to renovate Jehovah's Temple. They also hired men who worked with iron and bronze to repair Jehovah's Temple.

Jehoash said to the priests: All the money of the holy things, which comes into the house of Jehovah, the amount fixed for every man's payment, and all the money given by any man freely by motivation of his heart, Let the priests take, every man from his friends and neighbors, to make good what is damaged in the Temple, wherever it is to be seen.

The whole company of them rose up and brought him before Pilate. They accused him, saying: We found this man perverting our nation. He forbids payment of tax to Caesar. He claims to be Christ a king.

They watched him and sent out spies, who pretended to be righteous. The spies listened for something in his speech to deliver him up to the authority of the governor. Let every person be subject to superior authorities. For there is no authority except by God. God allows the authorities to serve in their positions.

Be subject to every ordinance of man for the Lord's sake: whether it is to the king,

For rulers are objects of fear, not to good works, but to the evil. Will you not have respect for the authority? Do what is good, and you will have praise from it.

It is God's will that you do the right things and that this will silence the ignorance of foolish men.

Render therefore to all their due. Provide tribute to whom tribute is due. Give custom to whom custom is owed. Render fear to whom fear is owed and offer honor to whom honor is deserved.
