But I say to you, that ye resist not the evildoer; but whoever smiteth thee on the right cheek, turn to him the other also;
To him that smiteth thee on one cheek, offer also the other; and him that taketh away thy cloak, forbid not to take thy coat also.
See that none render evil for evil to any one; but ever follow that which is good, both toward one another and toward all.
Finally, be, all of one mind, have fellow feeling, love as brethren, be compassionate, be humble; not rendering evil for evil, or railing for railing; but, on the contrary, blessing the evildoer; because for this end ye were called, that ye might inherit blessing. "For he that would love life, and see good days, let him refrain his tongue from evil, and his lips from speaking guile;
Render to no one evil for evil; have regard to what is honorable in the sight of all men.
Dearly beloved, avenge not yourselves, but rather make room for wrath; for it is written, "Vengeance is mine; I will repay, saith the Lord."
But love your enemies, and do good and lend, despairing of no one; and your reward will be great, and ye will be sons of the Most High; for he is kind to the unthankful and wicked.

and labor, working with our own hands; being reviled, we bless; being persecuted, we endure it;
Therefore, "if thy enemy hunger, feed him; if he thirst, give him drink. For in so doing thou wilt heap coals of fire on his head."
And when he had said this, one of the officers who was standing by struck Jesus on the face, saying, Is it thus that thou answerest the highpriest? Jesus answered him, If I spoke what is evil, testify to the evil; but if well, why dost thou strike me?
