'Against' in the Bible

The Lord said to Satan, “Have you considered My servant Job? For there is no one like him on the earth, a blameless and upright man fearing God and turning away from evil. And he still holds fast his integrity, although you incited Me against him to ruin him without cause.”

‘He puts no trust even in His servants;And against His angels He charges error.

“For the arrows of the Almighty are within me,Their poison my spirit drinks;The terrors of God are arrayed against me.

“If your sons sinned against Him,Then He delivered them into the power of their transgression.

‘Should my head be lifted up, You would hunt me like a lion;And again You would show Your power against me.

‘You renew Your witnesses against meAnd increase Your anger toward me;Hardship after hardship is with me.

“But would that God might speak,And open His lips against you,

“For You write bitter things against meAnd make me to inherit the iniquities of my youth.

“Your own mouth condemns you, and not I;And your own lips testify against you.

That you should turn your spirit against GodAnd allow such words to go out of your mouth?

Because he has stretched out his hand against GodAnd conducts himself arrogantly against the Almighty.

“I too could speak like you,If I were in your place.I could compose words against youAnd shake my head at you.

“You have shriveled me up,It has become a witness;And my leanness rises up against me,It testifies to my face.

“They have gaped at me with their mouth,They have slapped me on the cheek with contempt;They have massed themselves against me.

“He who informs against friends for a share of the spoil,The eyes of his children also will languish.

“The upright will be appalled at this,And the innocent will stir up himself against the godless.

“If indeed you vaunt yourselves against meAnd prove my disgrace to me,

“He has also kindled His anger against meAnd considered me as His enemy.

“His troops come together,And build up their way against meAnd camp around my tent.

“Even young children despise me;I rise up and they speak against me.

“All my associates abhor me,And those I love have turned against me.

“If you say, ‘How shall we persecute him?’And ‘What pretext for a case against him can we find?’

“In the fullness of his plenty he will be cramped;The hand of everyone who suffers will come against him.

“The heavens will reveal his iniquity,And the earth will rise up against him.

“Is it because of your reverence that He reproves you,That He enters into judgment against you?

“They spend the night naked, without clothing,And have no covering against the cold.

“Others snatch the orphan from the breast,And against the poor they take a pledge.

“Others have been with those who rebel against the light;They do not want to know its waysNor abide in its paths.

“They are driven from the community;They shout against them as against a thief,

“On the right hand their brood arises;They thrust aside my feet and build up against me their ways of destruction.

“Terrors are turned against me;They pursue my honor as the wind,And my prosperity has passed away like a cloud.

“I cry out to You for help, but You do not answer me;I stand up, and You turn Your attention against me.

“If I have despised the claim of my male or female slavesWhen they filed a complaint against me,

If I have lifted up my hand against the orphan,Because I saw I had support in the gate,

“If my land cries out against me,And its furrows weep together;

But the anger of Elihu the son of Barachel the Buzite, of the family of Ram burned; against Job his anger burned because he justified himself before God.

And his anger burned against his three friends because they had found no answer, and yet had condemned Job.

“For he has not arranged his words against me,Nor will I reply to him with your arguments.

‘Behold, He invents pretexts against me;He counts me as His enemy.

“Why do you complain against HimThat He does not give an account of all His doings?

‘For he adds rebellion to his sin;He claps his hands among us,And multiplies his words against God.’”

“If you have sinned, what do you accomplish against Him?And if your transgressions are many, what do you do to Him?

“The quiver rattles against him,The flashing spear and javelin.

It came about after the Lord had spoken these words to Job, that the Lord said to Eliphaz the Temanite, “My wrath is kindled against you and against your two friends, because you have not spoken of Me what is right as My servant Job has.
