'Chosen' in the Bible

Indeed, they will be ashamed of the sacred treesyou desired,and you will be embarrassed because of the gardensyou have chosen.

I have commanded My chosen ones;I have also called My warriors,who exult in My triumph,to execute My wrath.

But you, Israel, My servant,Jacob, whom I have chosen,descendant of Abraham, My friend—

I brought you from the ends of the earthand called you from its farthest corners.I said to you: You are My servant;I have chosen you and not rejected you.

“This is My Servant; I strengthen Him,this is My Chosen One; I delight in Him.I have put My Spirit on Him;He will bring justice to the nations.

“You are My witnesses”—this is the Lord’s declaration—“and My servant whom I have chosen,so that you may know and believe Meand understand that I am He.No god was formed before Me,and there will be none after Me.

The animals of the field will honor Me,jackals and ostriches,because I provide water in the wilderness,and rivers in the desert,to give drink to My chosen people.

“And now listen, Jacob My servant,Israel whom I have chosen.

This is the word of the Lordyour Maker who formed you from the womb;He will help you:Do not fear; Jacob is My servant;I have chosen Jeshurun.

I call you by your name,because of Jacob My servantand Israel My chosen one.I give a name to you,though you do not know Me.

This is what the Lord,the Redeemer of Israel, his Holy One, saysto one who is despised,to one abhorred by people,to a servant of rulers:“Kings will see and stand up,and princes will bow down,because of the Lord, who is faithful,the Holy One of Israel—and He has chosen you.”

I will produce descendants from Jacob,and heirs to My mountains from Judah;My chosen ones will possess it,and My servants will dwell there.

You will leave your name behindas a curse for My chosen ones,and the Lord God will kill you;but He will give His servants another name.

They will not build and others live in them;they will not plant and others eat.For My people’s lives will belike the lifetime of a tree.My chosen ones will fully enjoythe work of their hands.

One slaughters an ox, one kills a man;one sacrifices a lamb, one breaks a dog’s neck;one offers a grain offering, one offers pig’s blood;one offers incense, one praises an idol—all these have chosen their waysand delight in their detestable practices.
