'Servant' in the Bible
“He has helped His servant Israel,In remembrance of His mercy,
And He has raised up a horn of salvation [a mighty and valiant Savior] for usIn the house of David His servant—
“Now, Lord, You are releasing Your bond-servant to leave [this world] in peace,According to Your word;
Therefore I did not even consider myself worthy to come to You. But just speak a word, and my slave will be healed.
Blessed (happy, prosperous, to be admired) is that servant whom his master finds so doing when he arrives.
But if that servant says in his heart, ‘My master is taking his time in coming,’ and begins to beat the servants, both men and women, and to eat and drink and get drunk,
the master of that servant will come on a day when he does not expect him and at an hour he does not know, and will cut him in pieces, and assign him a place with the unbelievers.
And that servant who knew his master’s will, and yet did not get ready or act in accord with his will, will be beaten with many lashes [of the whip],
and at the dinner hour he sent his servant to tell those who had been invited, ‘Come, because everything is ready now.’
So the servant came back and reported this to his master. Then [his master,] the head of the household, became angry [at the rejections of his invitation] and said to his servant, ‘Go out quickly into the streets and the lanes of the city and bring in here the poor and the disabled and the blind and the lame.’
And the servant [after returning] said, ‘Sir, what you commanded has been done, and still there is room.’
Then the master told the servant, ‘Go out into the highways and along the hedges, and compel them to come in, so that my house may be filled [with guests].
So he summoned one of the servants and began asking what this [celebration] meant.
No servant can serve two masters; for either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will stand devotedly by the one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and mammon [that is, your earthly possessions or anything else you trust in and rely on instead of God].”
“Which of you who has a servant plowing or tending sheep will say to him when he comes in from the field, ‘Come at once and sit down to eat?’
He does not thank the servant just because he did what he was ordered to do, does he?
He said to the servant, ‘I will judge and condemn you by your own words, you worthless servant! Did you [really] know that I was a stern man, picking up what I did not lay down and reaping what I did not sow?
So he again sent another servant; they also beat him and dishonored and treated him disgracefully and sent him away empty-handed.
And a servant-girl, seeing him as he sat in the firelight and looking intently at him, said, “This man was with Him too.”
