'Words' in the Bible
Listen to my words, O Lord,Consider my groaning and sighing.
They speak deceitful and worthless words to one another;With flattering lips and a double heart they speak.
The words and promises of the Lord are pure words,Like silver refined in an earthen furnace, purified seven times.
Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heartBe acceptable and pleasing in Your sight,O Lord, my [firm, immovable] rock and my Redeemer.
My God, my God, why have You forsaken me?Why are You so far from helping me, and from the words of my groaning?
The words of his mouth are wicked and deceitful;He has ceased to be wise and to do good.
And when one comes to see me, he speaks empty words,While his heart gathers malicious gossip [against me];When he goes away, he tells it [everywhere].
Because of the voice of the taunter and reviler,Because of the presence of the enemy and the avenger.
“For you hate instruction and disciplineAnd cast My words behind you [discarding them].
You love all words that devour,O deceitful tongue.
Hear my prayer, O God;Listen to the words of my mouth.
The words of his mouth were smoother than butter,But his heart was hostile;His words were softer than oil,Yet they were drawn swords.
All day long they twist my words and say hurtful things;All their thoughts are against me for evil.
For the sin of their mouths and the words of their lips,Let them even be trapped in their pride,And on account of the curses and lies which they tell.
Who have sharpened their tongues like a sword.They aim venomous words as arrows,
Listen, O my people, to my teaching;Incline your ears to the words of my mouth [and be willing to learn].
They pour out words, speaking arrogant things;All who do evil boast proudly.
Who can put into words the mighty deeds of the Lord?Or who can proclaim all His praise [that is due Him]?
Then Israel believed in [the validity of] His words;They sang His praise.
Because they had rebelled against the precepts of GodAnd spurned the counsel of the Most High.
They have also surrounded me with words of hatred,And have fought against me without a cause.
Heth.The Lord is my portion;I have promised to keep Your words.
Your commandments make me wiser than my enemies,For Your words are always with me.
How sweet are Your words to my taste,Sweeter than honey to my mouth!
The unfolding of Your [glorious] words give light;Their unfolding gives understanding to the simple (childlike).
My zeal has [completely] consumed me,Because my enemies have forgotten Your words.
Shin.Princes persecute me without cause,But my heart stands in [reverent] awe of Your words [so I can expect You to help me].
For there they who took us captive demanded of us a song with words,And our tormentors [who made a mockery of us demanded] amusement, saying,“Sing us one of the songs of Zion.”
Their [wicked, godless] judges are thrown down the sides of the rocky cliff,And they [who followed them] will hear my words, for they are pleasant (just).
