And I will give your cities unto desolation, And make your holy places dumb, - And will find no fragrance in your satisfying odour;

And as for such as are left of you, Then will I bring faintness into their heart, in the lands of their foes, - So that the sound of a driven leaf shall chase them, And they shall flee as though fleeing from a sword And they shall fall, when no one is pursuing;

The fruit of thy soil, and all thy toilsome produce, shall a people whom thou knowest not, eat up, - and thou shalt be only oppressed and crushed, all the days;

The sojourner who is in thy midst, shall mount up above thee higher and higher, - whereas, thou, shalt come down lower and lower:

and the hand of Midian prevailed against Israel, - because of Midian, did the sons of Israel prepare for themselves the hollows which were in the mountains, and the caves, and the strongholds.

So, the men of Israel, saw they were in a strait, for the people had been harassed, - and the people had hidden themselves in caves, and in thickets, and among cliffs, and in holes, and in pits.

And, when the men of Israel who were across the vale, and who were across the Jordan, saw that the men of Israel had fled, and that Saul and his sons were dead, they forsook the cities, and fled, and the Philistines entered, and took up their abode therein.
