So David lived in the fortress and called it the City of David. David built all around it, from the terrace inwards.

So David sent Tamar to the house saying, "Please go to the house of Amnon your brother and prepare some food for him."

But the king said, "Let him go over to his own house. He may not see my face." So Absalom went over to his own house; he did not see the king's face.

And prepared

David assembled all Israel at Jerusalem to bring the ark of the Lord up to the place he had prepared for it.

They brought the ark of God and put it in the middle of the tent David had pitched for it. Then they offered burnt sacrifices and peace offerings before God.

When David had settled into his palace, he said to Nathan the prophet, "Look, I am living in a palace made from cedar, while the ark of the Lord's covenant is under a tent."

until I find a place for the Lord, a fine dwelling place for the powerful ruler of Jacob."

He found favor with God and asked that he could find a dwelling place for the house of Jacob.
