And he said, "Your name shall no longer be called Jacob, but Israel, for you have struggled with God and with men and have prevailed."

Assemble and hear, O sons of Jacob! Listen to Israel your father!

Reuben

Then Leah conceived and gave birth to a son, and she called his name Reuben, for she said, "Because Yahweh has noticed my misery, that I [am] unloved. Now my husband will love me."

And Bilhah conceived and gave birth to a son for Jacob.

And it happened [that] when her life was departing (for she was dying), she called his name Ben-Oni. But his father called him Benjamin.

Now these [are] the names of the sons of Israel, who came into Egypt, Jacob and his sons. Reuben, the firstborn of Jacob

Unstable as water, you shall not excel [any longer], for you went up upon the bed of your father, then defiled [it]. You went up upon my couch!

Reuben, Simeon, Levi, and Judah;

And these [are] the names of the men who will {assist you}: from Reuben, Elizur son of Shedeur;

And these [are] their names: from the tribe of Reuben, Shammua son of Zaccur;

Reuben, the firstborn of Israel, the descendants of Reuben: [of] Hanoch, the clan of the Hanochites; of Pallu, the clan of the Palluites;

from the tribe of Judah, twelve thousand sealed, from the tribe of Reuben, twelve thousand, from the tribe of Gad, twelve thousand,
