1 The divisions of the gatekeepers: From the Korahites: Meshelemiah, son of Kore, one of the sons of Asaph.

1 For the divisions of the gatekeepers there were of the Korahites, (a)Meshelemiah the son of Kore, of the sons of (b)Asaph.

1 Concerning the divisions of the porters: Of the Korhites was Meshelemiah the son of Kore, of the sons of Asaph.

1 The following were the divisions of the gatekeepers:From the Korahites: Meshelemiah son of Kore, one of the sons of Asaph.

1 The guild of trustees included, from the descendants of Korah, Kore's son Meshelemiah from Asaph's descendants;

2 Meshelemiah's sons: The firstborn Zechariah, the second Jediael, the third Zebadiah, the fourth Jathniel,

2 Meshelemiah had sons: Zechariah the firstborn, Jediael the second, Zebadiah the third, Jathniel the fourth,

2 And the sons of Meshelemiah were, Zechariah the firstborn, Jediael the second, Zebadiah the third, Jathniel the fourth,

4 (A)Obed-edom had sons: Shemaiah the firstborn, Jehozabad the second, Joah the third, Sacar the fourth, Nethanel the fifth,

4 Moreover the sons of Obededom were, Shemaiah the firstborn, Jehozabad the second, Joah the third, and Sacar the fourth, and Nethaneel the fifth,

4 Obed-edom also had sons:Shemaiah the firstborn, Jehozabad the second,Joah the third, Sachar the fourth,Nethanel the fifth,

4 Obed-edom's sons Shemaiah, his firstborn, Jehozabad his second, Joah his third, Sachar his fourth, Nethanel his fifth,

5 the sixth Ammiel, the seventh Issachar, and the eighth Peullethai. (Indeed, God blessed Obed-Edom.)

7 The sons of Shemaiah: Othni, Rephael, Obed, and Elzabad. His relatives Elihu and Semakiah were also respected.

7 The sons of Shemaiah were Othni, Rephael, Obed and Elzabad, whose brothers, Elihu and Semachiah, were valiant men.

7 The sons of Shemaiah; Othni, and Rephael, and Obed, Elzabad, whose brethren were strong men, Elihu, and Semachiah.

7 Shemaiah’s sons: Othni, Rephael, Obed, and Elzabad; his brothers Elihu and Semachiah were also capable men.

7 These sons of Shemaiah included Othni, Rephael, Obed, and Elzabad, whose brothers were valiant, able men, Elihu and Semachiah.

8 All these were the descendants of Obed-Edom. They and their sons and relatives were respected men, capable of doing their responsibilities. There were sixty-two of them related to Obed-Edom.

8 All these were of the sons of Obed-edom; they and their sons and their (c)relatives were able men with strength for the service, 62 from Obed-edom.

8 All these of the sons of Obededom: they and their sons and their brethren, able men for strength for the service, were threescore and two of Obededom.

8 All of these were among the sons of Obed-edom with their sons and brothers; they were capable men with strength for the work—62 from Obed-edom.

8 All of these sons of Obed-edom, along with their sons and brothers, were valiant men, fully qualified for duty 62 descendants of Obed-edom.

9 Meshelemiah had sons and relatives who were respected -- eighteen in all.

9 Meshelemiah had sons and relatives, 18 valiant men.

9 And Meshelemiah had sons and brethren, strong men, eighteen.

9 Meshelemiah also had sons and brothers who were capable men—18.

9 Meshelemiah had 18 sons and brothers who were valiant men.

10 Hosah, one of the descendants of Merari, had sons: The firstborn Shimri (he was not actually the firstborn, but his father gave him that status),

10 Also (B)Hosah, one of the sons of Merari had sons: Shimri the first (although he was not the firstborn, his father made him first),

10 Also Hosah, of the children of Merari, had sons; Simri the chief, (for though he was not the firstborn, yet his father made him the chief;)

10 Hosah,(A) from the Merarites, also had sons: Shimri the first (although he was not the firstborn, his father had appointed him as the first),

10 Hosah, one of Merari's sons, had these sons: Shimri their chief (though not the firstborn, his father had appointed him chief),

11 the second Hilkiah, the third Tebaliah, and the fourth Zechariah. All of Hosah's sons and relatives numbered thirteen.

11 Hilkiah the second, Tebaliah the third, Zechariah the fourth; all the sons and relatives of Hosah were 13.

11 Hilkiah the second, Tebaliah the third, Zechariah the fourth: all the sons and brethren of Hosah were thirteen.

11 Hilkiah the second, Tebaliah the third, and Zechariah the fourth. The sons and brothers of Hosah were 13 in all.

11 Hilkiah his second, Tebaliah his third, and Zechariah his fourth, with a total of 13 sons and brothers of Hosah.

12 These divisions of the gatekeepers, corresponding to their leaders, had assigned responsibilities, like their relatives, as they served in the Lord's temple.

12 To these divisions of the gatekeepers, the chief men, were given duties like their relatives to minister in the house of the Lord.

12 Among these were the divisions of the porters, even among the chief men, having wards one against another, to minister in the house of the LORD.

12 These divisions of the gatekeepers, under their leading men, had duties for ministering in the Lord’s temple, just as their brothers did.

12 With respect to their leaders, these courses of trustees had responsibilities, along with their relatives, regarding ministry within the Temple of the LORD

13 They cast lots, both young and old, according to their families, to determine which gate they would be responsible for.

13 (C)They cast lots, the small and the great alike, according to their fathers’ households, for every gate.

13 And they cast lots, as well the small as the great, according to the house of their fathers, for every gate.

13 They cast lots for each gate according to their ancestral houses, young and old alike.(B)

13 assigned by lottery according to their ancestral households, whether large or small alike, for their gate assignments.

14 The lot for the east gate went to Shelemiah. They then cast lots for his son Zechariah, a wise adviser, and the lot for the north gate went to him.

14 The lot to the east fell to (d)Shelemiah. Then they cast lots for his son Zechariah, a counselor with insight, and his lot came out to the north.

14 And the lot eastward fell to Shelemiah. Then for Zechariah his son, a wise counseller, they cast lots; and his lot came out northward.

14 The lot for the east gate fell to Shelemiah.(a) They also cast lots for his son Zechariah, an insightful counselor, and his lot came out for the north gate.

14 The lot for the eastern gate fell to Shelemiah. They also cast lots for his son Zechariah, who was a wise counselor, and his lot indicated the northern gate.

15 Obed-Edom was assigned the south gate, and his sons were assigned the storehouses.

15 For Obed-edom it fell to the south, and to his sons went the storehouse.

15 To Obededom southward; and to his sons the house of Asuppim.

15 Obed-edom’s was the south gate, and his sons’ lot was for the storehouses;

15 Obed-edom's lot indicated the south gate, and his sons were also allotted responsibility for the storehouse.

16 Shuppim and Hosah were assigned the west gate, along with the Shalleketh gate on the upper road. One guard was adjacent to another.

16 For Shuppim and Hosah it was to the west, by the gate of Shallecheth, on the ascending highway. Guard corresponded to guard.

16 To Shuppim and Hosah the lot came forth westward, with the gate Shallecheth, by the causeway of the going up, ward against ward.

16 it was the west gate and the gate of Shallecheth on the ascending highway for Shuppim and Hosah.There were guards stationed at every watch.

16 For Shuppim and Hosah the lot indicated the west at the gate of Shallecheth on the ascending road.

17 Each day there were six Levites posted on the east, four on the north, and four on the south. At the storehouses they were posted in pairs.

17 On the east there were six Levites, on the north four daily, on the south four daily, and at the storehouse two by two.

17 Eastward were six Levites, northward four a day, southward four a day, and toward Asuppim two and two.

17 There were six Levites each day(b) on the east, four each day on the north, four each day on the south, and two pair at the storehouses.

17 Each guard corresponding to each guard, on the east six descendants of Levi were assigned for each day, on the north four for each day, on the south four for each day (as well as two pairs of guards assigned to the storehouse),

18 At the court on the west there were four posted on the road and two at the court.

18 At the (e)(D)Parbar on the west there were four at the highway and two at the Parbar.

18 At Parbar westward, four at the causeway, and two at Parbar.

18 As for the court on the west, there were four at the highway and two at the court.

18 and for the colonnade on the west four were assigned at the road and two at the colonnade.

19 These were the divisions of the gatekeepers who were descendants of Korah and Merari.

19 These were the divisions of the gatekeepers of the sons of Korah and of the sons of Merari.

19 These are the divisions of the porters among the sons of Kore, and among the sons of Merari.

19 Those were the divisions of the gatekeepers from the sons of the Korahites and Merarites.

19 These were the ranks of trustees assigned among the descendants of Korah and the sons of Merari.

Treasurers And Other Officials

20 Their fellow Levites were in charge of the storehouses in God's temple and the storehouses containing consecrated items.

20 (f)The Levites, their relatives, (g)had (E)charge of the treasures of the house of God and of the treasures of the dedicated gifts.

20 And of the Levites, Ahijah was over the treasures of the house of God, and over the treasures of the dedicated things.

20 From the Levites, Ahijah was in charge of the treasuries of God’s temple and the treasuries of what had been dedicated.(C)

20 Now with respect to the descendants of Levi, Ahijah was responsible for the treasuries of the Temple of God, including the treasuries containing dedicated gifts.

21 The descendants of Ladan, who were descended from Gershon through Ladan and were leaders of the families of Ladan the Gershonite, included Jehieli

21 The sons of Ladan, the sons of the Gershonites belonging to Ladan, namely, the Jehielites, were the heads of the fathers’ households, belonging to Ladan the Gershonite.

21 As concerning the sons of Laadan; the sons of the Gershonite Laadan, chief fathers, even of Laadan the Gershonite, were Jehieli.

21 From the sons of Ladan, who were the sons of the Gershonites through Ladan and were the heads of families belonging to Ladan the Gershonite: Jehieli.

21 With respect to the descendants of Ladan, the Gershonite descendants pertaining to Ladan, the heads of families pertaining to Ladan the Gershonite, there was Jehieli.

22 and the sons of Jehieli, Zetham and his brother Joel. They were in charge of the storehouses in the Lord's temple.

22 The sons of Jehieli, Zetham and Joel his brother, (h)had charge of the treasures of the house of the Lord.

22 The sons of Jehieli; Zetham, and Joel his brother, which were over the treasures of the house of the LORD.

22 The sons of Jehieli, Zetham and his brother Joel, were in charge of the treasuries of the Lord’s temple.

22 The descendants of Jehieli, Zetham and his brother Joel, were responsible for the treasuries of the Temple of the LORD.

23 As for the Amramites, Izharites, Hebronites, and Uzzielites:

23 As for the Amramites, the Izharites, the Hebronites and the Uzzielites,

23 Of the Amramites, and the Izharites, the Hebronites, and the Uzzielites:

23 From the Amramites, the Izharites, the Hebronites, and the Uzzielites:

23 From the descendants of Amram, Izhar, Hebron, and Uzziel were assigned

24 Shebuel son of Gershom, the son of Moses, was the supervisor of the storehouses.

24 Shebuel the son of Gershom, the son of Moses, was officer over the treasures.

24 And Shebuel the son of Gershom, the son of Moses, was ruler of the treasures.

24 Shebuel, a descendant of Moses’ son Gershom, was the officer in charge of the treasuries.

24 Shebuel, a descendant of Gershom and a descendant of Moses (as chief officer in charge of the treasuries)

25 His relatives through Eliezer included: Rehabiah his son, Jeshaiah his son, Joram his son, Zikri his son, and Shelomith his son.

25 His relatives by Eliezer were Rehabiah his son, Jeshaiah his son, Joram his son, Zichri his son and Shelomoth his son.

25 And his brethren by Eliezer; Rehabiah his son, and Jeshaiah his son, and Joram his son, and Zichri his son, and Shelomith his son.

25 His relative through Eliezer: his son Rehabiah, his son Jeshaiah, his son Joram, his son Zichri, and his son Shelomith.(c)

25 and his brothers from Eliezer, including his son Rehabiah, his son Jeshaiah, his son Joram, his son Zichri, and his son Shelomoth.

26 Shelomith and his relatives were in charge of all the storehouses containing the consecrated items dedicated by King David, the family leaders who led units of a thousand and a hundred, and the army officers.

26 This Shelomoth and his relatives (i)had charge of all the treasures of the dedicated gifts (F)which King David and the heads of the fathers’ households, the commanders of thousands and hundreds, and the commanders of the army, had dedicated.

26 Which Shelomith and his brethren were over all the treasures of the dedicated things, which David the king, and the chief fathers, the captains over thousands and hundreds, and the captains of the host, had dedicated.

26 This Shelomith(d) and his brothers were in charge of all the treasuries of what had been dedicated by King David,(D) by the heads of families who were the commanders of thousands and of hundreds, and by the army commanders.

26 Shelomoth and his brothers were responsible for all of the treasuries of dedicated gifts given by King David, by the heads of families, by the officers of groups of thousands and groups of hundreds, and by the leading army officers.

27 They had dedicated some of the plunder taken in battles to be used for repairs on the Lord's temple.

27 They dedicated (j)part of the spoil won in battles to repair the house of the Lord.

27 Out of the spoils won in battles did they dedicate to maintain the house of the LORD.

27 They dedicated part of the plunder from their battles for the repair of the Lord’s temple.

27 They dedicated gifts for the maintenance of the Temple of the LORD from spoils of war.

28 They were also in charge of everything dedicated by Samuel the prophet, Saul son of Kish, Abner son of Ner, and Joab son of Zeruiah; Shelomith and his relatives were in charge of everything that had been dedicated.

28 And all that Samuel the seer had dedicated and Saul the son of Kish, Abner the son of Ner and Joab the son of Zeruiah, everyone who had dedicated anything, all of this was (k)in the care of (l)Shelomoth and his relatives.

28 And all that Samuel the seer, and Saul the son of Kish, and Abner the son of Ner, and Joab the son of Zeruiah, had dedicated; and whosoever had dedicated any thing, it was under the hand of Shelomith, and of his brethren.

28 All that Samuel the seer, Saul son of Kish, Abner son of Ner, and Joab son of Zeruiah had dedicated, along with everything else that had been dedicated, were in the care of Shelomith(e) and his brothers.

28 Furthermore, everything that Samuel the seer, Kish's son Saul, Ner's son Abner, and Zeruiah's son Joab had dedicated all of their dedicated gifts were under the care of Shelomoth and his brothers.

David Appoints Levites To Oversee Israel's Worship

29 As for the Izharites: Kenaniah and his sons were given responsibilities outside the temple as officers and judges over Israel.

29 As for the Izharites, Chenaniah and his sons (G)were assigned to outside duties for Israel, as (H)officers and judges.

29 Of the Izharites, Chenaniah and his sons were for the outward business over Israel, for officers and judges.

29 From the Izrahites: Chenaniah and his sons had the outside duties(E) as officers and judges(F) over Israel.

29 From the descendants of Izhar, Chenaniah and his sons were assigned as officers and judges with responsibilities relating to external duties.

30 As for the Hebronites: Hashabiah and his relatives, 1,700 respected men, were assigned responsibilities in Israel west of the Jordan; they did the Lord's work and the king's service.

30 As for the Hebronites, (I)Hashabiah and his relatives, 1,700 capable men, had charge of the affairs of Israel (m)west of the Jordan, for all the work of the Lord and the service of the king.

30 And of the Hebronites, Hashabiah and his brethren, men of valour, a thousand and seven hundred, were officers among them of Israel on this side Jordan westward in all the business of the LORD, and in the service of the king.

30 From the Hebronites: Hashabiah(G) and his relatives, 1,700 capable men, had assigned duties in Israel west of the Jordan for all the work of the Lord and for the service of the king.

30 From the descendants of Hebron, Hashabiah and his relatives 1,700 outstanding men were assigned oversight of Israel west of the Jordan regarding all of the LORD's work and services on behalf of the king.

31 As for the Hebronites: Jeriah was the leader of the Hebronites according to the genealogical records. In the fortieth year of David's reign, they examined the records and discovered there were highly respected men in Jazer in Gilead.

31 As for the Hebronites, (J)Jerijah the chief (n)(these Hebronites were investigated according to their genealogies and fathers’ households, in the fortieth year of David’s reign, and men of outstanding capability were found among them at (K)Jazer of Gilead)

31 Among the Hebronites was Jerijah the chief, even among the Hebronites, according to the generations of his fathers. In the fortieth year of the reign of David they were sought for, and there were found among them mighty men of valour at Jazer of Gilead.

31 From the Hebronites: Jerijah(H) was the head of the Hebronites, according to the genealogical records of his ancestors. A search was made in the fortieth year of David’s reign and strong, capable men were found among them at Jazer(I) in Gilead.

31 From the descendants of Hebron, Jerijah was assigned chief of the descendants of Hebron. During the fortieth year of David's administration, a search was made by genealogical record, family by family, to find men of great ability, including those found at Jazer in Gilead.

32 Jeriah had 2,700 relatives who were respected family leaders. King David placed them in charge of the Reubenites, the Gadites, and the half-tribe of Manasseh; they took care of all matters pertaining to God and the king.

32 and his relatives, capable men, were 2,700 in number, heads of fathers’ households. And King David made them overseers of the Reubenites, the Gadites and the half-tribe of the Manassites (L)concerning (o)all the affairs of God and of the king.

32 And his brethren, men of valour, were two thousand and seven hundred chief fathers, whom king David made rulers over the Reubenites, the Gadites, and the half tribe of Manasseh, for every matter pertaining to God, and affairs of the king.

32 There were among Jerijah’s relatives, 2,700 capable men who were heads of families. King David appointed them over the Reubenites, the Gadites, and half the tribe of Manasseh as overseers in every matter relating to God and the king.(J)

32 King David appointed Jerijah, his relatives, and 2,700 competent men who were each family heads, to oversee the tribes of Reuben and Gad, and the half-tribe of Manasseh regarding everything pertaining to God as well as matters relating to the king.
