We know that we have passed out of death into life, because we love the brothers. Whoever does not love abides in death.

Let us know; let us press on to know the LORD; his going out is sure as the dawn; he will come to us as the showers, as the spring rains that water the earth."

So Jesus said to the Jews who had believed in him, "If you abide in my word, you are truly my disciples,

Therefore let us not pass judgment on one another any longer, but rather decide never to put a stumbling block or hindrance in the way of a brother.

Therefore, brothers, be all the more diligent to make your calling and election sure, for if you practice these qualities you will never fall.

Occasion of stumbling

yet he has no root in himself, but endures for a while, and when tribulation or persecution arises on account of the word, immediately he falls away.

"Woe to the world for temptations to sin!For it is necessary that temptations come, but woe to the one by whom the temptation comes!

And he said to his disciples, "Temptations to sin are sure to come, but woe to the one through whom they come!

Why? Because they did not pursue it by faith, but as if it were based on works. They have stumbled over the stumbling stone,

so that you may approve what is excellent, and so be pure and blameless for the day of Christ,
