For what credit is there if you sin and are punished, and you endure it? But when you do what is good and suffer, if you endure it, this brings favor with God.

If you love those who love you, what credit is that to you? Even sinners love those who love them.

For conscience

But even if you should suffer for righteousness, you are blessed. Do not fear what they fear

or be disturbed,

Those who are persecuted for righteousness are blessed,
for the kingdom of heaven is theirs.

But they will do all these things to you on account of My name, because they don’t know the One who sent Me.

Therefore, you must submit, not only because of wrath, but also because of your conscience.

and that is why I suffer these things. But I am not ashamed, because I know the One I have believed in and am persuaded that He is able to guard what has been entrusted to me

until that day.

Suffering

I know your thoughts very well,
the schemes you would wrong me with.

Do not let my deceitful enemies rejoice over me;
do not let those who hate me without cause
look at me maliciously.

But my enemies are vigorous and powerful;
many hate me for no reason.

Those who hate me without cause
are more numerous than the hairs of my head;
my deceitful enemies, who would destroy me,
are powerful.
Though I did not steal, I must repay.
