The time

Though God overlooked those times of ignorance, He now commands all men everywhere to repent,

So, brothers, we are under obligations, but not to our lower nature to live by the standard set by it;

And these are just the characters some of you used to be. But now you have washed yourselves clean, you have been consecrated, you are now in right standing with God, by the name of our Lord Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of God.

To have

As obedient children, stop molding your character by the evil desires you used to cherish when you did not know any better,

Forever since the creation of the world, His invisible characteristics -- His eternal power and divine nature -- have been made intelligible and clearly visible by His works. So they are without excuse,

in which you once lived in accordance with the spirit of this present world, and the mighty prince of the air, who is always at work in the disobedient, among whom all of us, we Jews as well as you heathen,

So I mean this and now testify to it in the name of the Lord: You must now stop living as the heathen usually do, in the frivolity of their minds,

not out of evil passions as the heathen do who do not know God;

For once we too were without understanding, disobedient, misled, habitual slaves to all sorts of passions and pleasures, spending our lives in malice and envy.

Lasciviousness

adultery, greed, malice, deceit, licentiousness, envy, abusiveness, haughtiness, thoughtlessness.

and that when I come back my God may humiliate me before you, and I may have to mourn over some of those who formerly have committed shocking sins, and have not repented for them -- their impurity, sexual immorality, and sensuality, which once they practiced.

Now the practices of the lower nature are clear enough: Sexual immorality, impurity, sensuality,

for in their recklessness they have abandoned themselves to sensuality which leads to excessive practices of all sorts of immorality.

For certain persons have sneaked in -- their doom was written down long ago -- godless persons, who turn the favor of our God into an excuse for licentiousness, and disown our only Master and Lord, Jesus Christ.

Excess

Stop getting drunk on wine, for that means profligacy, but ever be filled with the Spirit,

Revellings

envy, drunkenness, carousing, and the like. I now warn you, as I have done before, that those who practice such things shall not be heirs of the kingdom of God.
