Then Samuel took a vial of oil, and poured it upon his head, and kissed him, and said, Is it not because the LORD hath anointed thee to be captain over his inheritance?

For it was fitting for him, through whom are all things, and because of whom are all things, having brought many sons to glory, to make the pathfinder of their salvation fully perfect through sufferings.

For LORD's portion is his people. Jacob is the lot of his inheritance.
He brought him from following the ewes that have their young, to be the shepherd of Jacob his people, and Israel his inheritance.
For LORD has chosen Jacob to himself, Israel for his own possession.
The portion of Jacob is not like these. For he is the former of all things, and Israel is the tribe of his inheritance. LORD of hosts is his name.
